Please change Daz Studio to save all data

I have been using the transfer utility in daz studio to transfer everything back to a figure after exporting and importing it. It works as long as the scene is open in studio but when saving and reloading all transfered parameter options who were left at the default value will be gone. Please change studio to save everything or add a save option for that as it is cumbersome having to redo it the next day or not knowing what parameters will still be there when opening a scenen the next time.

  • I'm not clear on what you mean. What are you transferring to and from, and how are you saving?

I export a figure from daz and import it again as obj. Then I use the transfer utility with the "Replace Source With Target" option and the original figure as source to have the imported one working again with all extras. This does what is expected but when saving everything as a scene and open it again the transfered shaping options are gone (unless they didn't have the default value when saving).

Its not so much about the specific problem as there are other ways to get it to work (Update Base Geometry) but about not having a way to save everything as a whole to continue where one left. Another example would be hiding elements with the geometry editor which is also lost when reopening the scene and requires workarounds. Why not have a save option which includes all of these changes so its possible to resume exactly where one left?

  • Hiding isn't masnt to be persistent, for that you should create a selection Set and use it to reseelct and rehide the mesh - or assign to a new group or surface and hide with that. Try saving as a figure asset instead of a scene (under a new name).

I know its possible to have those things saved by doing the right workarounds but thats because I lost already some work to it. Its backward as a user doesn't expect having to do things in a certain way for them to be saved when its related to his work. How is a newcomer supposed to know what settings are meant to be persistent or not by the developers?

Expected behavior: When opening a file saved using the default save command, the scene should be identical to what it was when saved.

If this is not the case, the problem is with the program, not the user.

I was wanting to know if the behaviour was in fact different.

I suspect it's WAI, saving a scene only creates DSF files for items in RAM that don't already have them, and by using the transfer utility everything it transfered will probably still be "flagged" as the original.

Saving it as a figure asset is the correct way of doing it, and using "save modified assets" to update the files with any changes you make.
