Dynamic clothing plugin problem/ Dymanic tablecloth

I was going to use the dymanic tablecloth over a cube.

I added a plane so that the tablecloth has something to fall on to as I made the cube small so that the tablecloth can reach the plane.

Now the problem is that the tablelocht just goes through the plane.

What am I doing wrong?

  • How many divisions did you give the plane? It may well need more if you kept the number low.

    I gave it 1000

Should be plenty. Check the Collide With settings from the Dynamic Clothing pane.

Plane is selected to collide with.

Other weird thing is that it crashes the studio when using with Iray preview.

    Very strange indeed.

Most important though is to get it to not go through the plane.

  • Sorry, I can't immediately think of anything else to suggest.

  • Do you have the tablecloth set to collide with only the plane? Or did you leave it set at "Everything"? The dynamics plugin is a bit on the fragile side and easily overloaded, it's best to prune the collide list ruthlessly and only select the things you want the cloth to collide with; other objects the cloth can't possibly touch should be deselected.

I just check the items it should colide with, in case of a cube and the plane I would check those 2 and nothgin else.

By default the tablecloth is checked aswell, so I leave this also checked.

I can tell you from my experaince with the OPtiTex dynamic cloth that you can deselect the table cloth for interesection in the collision list.  Its not needed there.

Even though the primative is not a body, its counts as one for collision so make sure body & self collision is selected on the 4th tab (rendering atm, cannot remember the names for everything)

As for crashing DS in the IRay preview, you mean you are trying to drape cloth WHILE IRay renders in teh viewport?

Yes, I realize that trying to drape while the preview was rendering in Iray was a bit silly, but hey, I learned something new.

I fixed the problem, once I convereted the plane to SubD the cloth wont go through anymore.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help.

Sometimes, too many polygons causes an issue; i've had to on occasions use a plane without any divisions. The 'cloth' enough divisions to get the affect I'm after; the collision object as few as it needs - don't presume it needs a lot. start with a basic plane (no divisions).

Thank you, I already have it fixed, I found out that I had to convert the plane into SubD and it works that way.
