the problem I'm finding is I can subdivide the mesh once in zbrush if I'm useing genesis but not at all if v4. In V4's case as you saw the ridges are soft as you said. for genesis the problem is I'm extremely limited with outfits. auto fit and the smoothing modifier as ineffective for armour and outfit selections.

The era is post-TNG and cross breeding klingon's and humans in the Empire is pretty much the same as saying you're a Vulcan...death sentence.

    ideas anyone?

    -Paul

Can you paint a displacement map or normal map in ZBrush instead? Or even do a combination of Inj Morph + Displacement (or normal map)

Okay, I'll do that soon. Right now, I have the male suit in the T position. Helmet, attachments, hose connectors, etc. are on there, and colored correctly. It's still in 3ds Max right now.

Don't leave us "hanging" like this. At least post a "clay" render of the native .MAX data.

Thalek is probably our best expert on the Tholian EVA suits. I'm sure he's bursting at the seams to view it as well. I know I am!

    Sincerely,

    Bill

I won't call myself an expert, but I did own a lovely replica made by Andy Monsen and Roberta Brubaker. I can't recall if I've posted that image here or not.

Yeah, "bursting at the seams" is how I feel right now, and let me tell you, it's not something you want to have happen while wearing an environmental suit! [grin]

    Okay, here's a sneak peek: http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq353/Raymar3d/tempTOSSpacesuit/SpaceSuit_Revised.jpg

The suit is the M3 Bodysuit, the boots and gloves are modified versions of the Apollo Spacesuit for M3. I exported the V4 catsuit and the M3 suit again with wrinkles added so the suit would look more realistic. But the actual parts are going to be separate so that they can be used on any suit you want to use them on. The big problem with this is the hoses on the outfit as they cross joint lines. In 3ds Max, I'm just going to add a biped to it and animate it there, but I want to make this available to the community so we can all use it. -- Ken :)

    That's pretty damned good!

I was thinking of putting the hoses on the chest plate and making them posable, myself, like an octopus's tentacles, if making them part of the suit didn't work.

I don't think you'll be able to distribute it if it contains parts of other costumes, though.

Yeah, I will only distribute the original stuff, not the stuff I'm using for reference. But if it can be posed/linked/fitted to the figure, it should work. I'm able to do it with my eyes closed (almost) in 3ds Max, but Poser/Daz... not sure yet. I have the utility to fit/conform but haven't tried it out yet. -- Ken

What utility is that? I know that Phil Cooke's Obj2Cr2 can make conforming clothing from object files.

    :bug: :bug: :bug:

What we need is the emoticon that drops its jaw several times the height if its head as that one more appropriately describes my reaction at this moment.

That is %^&* cool!!! That really captures the essence of the Minor/Theiss design! I certainly wish you well on the rigging issues, but if it doesn't pan out, I'd gladly accept a static prop of the helmet and shoulder yoke elements without the extended hose pieces. One can always explain it as a variant design.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Another alternative might be textures and displacement maps. That was what I had been considering for a long time.

    Thanks for the praise! :)

As for the utility I have and haven't figured out yet, this is it: Content Creator Toolkit (CCT) http://www.daz3d.com/software/plugins-utilities/content-creator-toolkit-cct Anyone any good with it yet? -- Ken

I speculate that parenting one prop to another will drag both into the setup room, but I haven't tried it yet.

Good tip, sir. I'll try that tomorrow, if time permits.

Yup, group the objects. Although, honestly, I tried it as a test yesterday and didn't get the same sort of results as I got with the Medusan, so I think I'm missing a step somewhere, or went somewhere I shouldn't.

The other alternative is to simply make the circlet in two parts, the same way I described, parent the opening part to the stationary part, parent the stationary part to the figure's neck, and then save the grouped parts as a single prop after setting the origin of the moving part where you want it to hinge (this is how I originally created the Medusan for distribution). You can edit the PP2 file so that all of the translation settings are hidden for the opening part, so the user doesn't accidentally dial it away from its position - just leave the one rotation dial (probably "Y Rotate") as "hidden 0" in the PP2, and rename the dial to "Open."

I'll try to do a couple more tests on the other technique - I know I've done it, but clearly I didn't write down the steps ;).

Just wondered. Looked like it would have been a good match for Rduda's Great Hall and Bluto's city buildings.

    Man, that is beautiful!

As a guy who spent more than seven years playing a doctor, I have a certain affinity for Sickbay aboard any ship.
