Rotate Tool Not Working

Hullo!

Haven't been able to find anything on this (I might just be terrible with keyword searches though), but I'm having an issue with the Rotate Tool. It seems like 'Selection' has a higher priority than the Green, Red and Blue XYZ Rotation circles, as wel I try to click one of the circles to rotate the object, it instead highlights the object and selects it. It's as if the XYZ rotation circles are somehow in the background, while the model is in the foreground.

This sound like a familiar issue? Is there a way or setting to fix this issue?

  • Are you sure the circle is highlighing before you try to click on it? They're very thin targets, I've discovered it's very easy to miss, which will select the object instead. It doesn't always matter so much, but in this case your mouse aim must be exact.

One other thing, exactly what do you mean by "click the circle"? I've always taken "click " to mean "mouse button press then immediately release" — but the way the rotate circles work, it's "mouse button press and drag", don't release until you have the amount of rotate you want.

It might not seem an important difference, but remember the old saying; "computers follow your orders, not your intentions"...

  • In the Tool Settings panel, you can adjust the size of the circles/lines to make them easier to click. Turning them up to 4, I know I'm not mis-clicking. It's as if the cirles aren't there, as when I hover over them with the cursor, it intead highlights a portion of the mesh (as a preview to clicking and selecting).

When I click (and drag, or press, or anything), it simply performs a select function, rather than actually highlighting the rotation circle and then enabling rotation as it should.

Try moving the cursor a little to the side, the tools aren't lined up exactly down to the pixel.  I often have trouble and select the rotate instead of the translate even though the mouse is over the translate part of the tool, when both are very close together.  Sometimes I have to try selecting it in a different view where there is a different angle and the tool pieces are farther apart.

Also move the mouse over the part of the tool you want to select and click and hold then WAIT and watch carefully for the selection to take effect before you start dragging it.  It is sometimes extremely slow and selection lags maybe a second behind the actual mouse movement, so when you click and drag on one tool that was highlighted when you clicked, it doesn't register the click until the mouse has already moved away and now you are selecting rotate instead of translate by accident.

If it is about rigged figures , I think, "world cordinate with local axis" option  can show true rotation axis of current Eular rotation ,

about selected  node .  or rotate not much with visible rotation axis (circle) with rotation tool.  and rig setting (lock and limit) effect  too.

eg,  you can rotate Forarm only about two axis,  about genesis3 rigs   (rigged as duble quartanion to prevent gimbal lock)

then,, which setting to rotate nodes with rotation tool,, are you using?

And if it is only about selection matter of daz basse figues nodes  , you may try power pose tool (not daz offered but community add on), to select nodes easy, with rotation tool.

I actually use it much .  if it happen about other figures, use Joint editor, or set show bones = on,  in parameter setting. it make easy to these may help  select nodes in view port too.
