Do I need .mc6 content

If I don't use poser, do I want or need the .mc6 materials for any reason (either now or for potential future use), or can I just dump them in my zztrashbin folder right away?

If you are never planning on using Poser...ever, then you can get rid of the .mc6 files. Those files are not usable in Daz Studio.

They are visible in DS4, and a few products have placed the DS materials in with the MC6 files instead of the pz2s - check that before deleting. And of course we all hope that DS will gain the ability to translate at least some Poser shader trees to Shader Mixer in the future - though I imagine that the best that could be hoped for would be highly hit-or-miss.

Also be aware that some vendors have started placing their .dsa mat companion files with the .mc6 files. So it's not always going to be wise to delete them.

To clarify, I meant categorizing the .mc6 content thumbnails into a trash bit folder, not actually deleting any files on disk. I didn't know if Studio could or might someday use or need content in that format; if it might, it would be a lot of work to go dig EVERYTHING out of a trash folder, and it would make sense to categorize these right alongside my other materials right away. However if the files are only going to be of value in Poser, then I don't need to waste time categorizing them in DAZ Studio.

For example, some of my content has P4 and PP versions, and I trash the P4 version and use the PP. some content has .daz and .duf, and I trash the .daz and use the .duf instead.

hope to ask some quesiton about mc6 files.:)

I am not poser user, so hope to use only dsa, or used to use pz2 (mat) files.
I find some products only show mc6 file in smart content, or content library.
but when I check folda of my pc, there are two files. dsa and mc6.

(I asked about the product, in forum ^^; thought if daz forget to include dsa files,,)

so in this case, I can not delete mc6 files?

and when I click mc6files not from actual folda, but from daz studio, smart content tab
or content library, (I do not know it is just show as mc6 but it is dsa files or not )
    , what happen?

when click mc6 files in ds, it call dsa script which has same name ? (these code are embed in dsa files?)
then adjust the proerty values for daz studio? so Adam said , not better to delete mc6?

I hope, if daz and vendor offer their product for ds 4.5 user , clearly separate from mc6 and dsa.or duf.
about old products , I understand, there seems no way. but after release 4.5
and they use new dson format . many file types just confuse new user I think.

No you cannot delete the mc6 in this case. This is because the .dsa file is inside the runtime structure (Poser structure), it requires the mc6 file to be present for DAZ Studio to "see" it... The dsa will automatically be executed INSTEAD of the mc6 file in these cases.
