Iray never finishes the render..Stuck at 53%

I have a render that I have tried on Photreal and the other option...Render never finishes gets stuck...I have had the scene go over nite and all day 16 hours and now at 8 hours...
Reminds me of Bryce...
What I need to know is what are the best setting for Iray...?
I am just rendering a Potrait...Nothing fancy just a portrait using Colm Jacksons lights...
Am I missing something...even rendering right outta the Box so to say I get it stuck...
oh I am using 4.9

Do you have a nvidia graphic card? If so is it enabled? How large are you rendering?
Forget the percentage. That's just an internal estimate to help you set up a render that will automatically finish. While it often provides an accurate review of the completeness of the scene, it's not foolproof.
What matter is that the image appears "done" to you. If it's still full of fireflies and/or the peppery look of unconverged pixels, there may be an issue with the scene itself, or D|S or Iray may have crashed, or any number of things.
Good point Tobor.
Hi Tobor,
what foleypro experienced is, that at a certain status iRay tries to solve a special process, which goes stuck due to inopportune internal values. This mostly happens while the result is still very grainy. So if you stop now, you won't have a satisfying result. Even kompressing the picture size isn't a valid workaround.
The question is how to convince iray to continue its progress.
While iRay renders, it still is possible to change some of the parameters, i. e. the tonemapping.
Most times my renders ran into a stuck situation, it helped to apply small changes to one of those parameters.
The main problem is that these stuck situations can not be properly reproduced. So we can't create a valid bug report about this.
Attached one example, I experienced. And you see, it is at a very early status.
We don't know the process isn't continuing. Foleypro didn't provide that information in his post. If it's still showing iterations, it's still going. The percentage value alone is meaningless as a metric of whether the image is done. When the render progress box stops showing an update of iterations, then it's time to cancel and try something else.
Luckily never experienced the iterations did stop.
But:
The status I showed lasts forever. --> iRay in endless loop.
If repeated the same render only with a little different tonemapping or even exactly the same conditions next run finished within a few hours.
So: iRay is still running and counting up iterations without any further progress.
And this is STUCK !!
Nowbody can explain why. But there are certain occasions where the render engine enters an enless loop.
It won't (or shouldn't) last forever. One of the other stop-at values, either iterations (samples) or time, will terminate the render. If this is not what happens, it suggests a different cause than Iray not progressing in its converging estimate.
Critical would be one of the following:
1. The render stalls, and never shows an increase in iterations
2. The iterations are counted, but even after a very long period, there is no discernable improvement in the picture.
To be clear, these are all bugs in Iray, but the loss of the convergence meter is more of an inconvenience, since the program is still in fact progressing in its render.
I mention the following whenever Iray misbehaves: Quit D|S, restart your computer, and try again. It often fixes these kinds of transient problems.
just about IRAY and GTX 750
i was with HD 5700 and always render as 3DL, and some time under Iray
next i decide to work more under Iray and change my in stock GTX 750
problem,, - Iray not work !
the render never start and all scenes report error and crash due to lack of memory (after 1 hour)
workin arround to find a solution, i found and install 'CUDA toolkit' (by NVIDIA)
Iray work now,,
the toolkit replace the main graphix drive of GTX 750 to a previous version more comptatible with Iray
