I posted a formula for an adjustable torus in John's modeling thread.  A formula is not just for backgrounds.

Here is "that great French formula site."

  • Thanks Diomede.  Got lost one step one.  My general experience is, if I get lost on step one, I'm probably not yet ready for the information. :)

    sorry to go off topic

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

on anything goos - spent a while with it yesterday trying to get edge outlines - didn't get any better results than I get with ToonPro! - but I'm sure I didnt exhaust the different parameters

I was looking for something that acts in the xyz meridians rather than just x and z .  But I love Philemeno's port of  GMIC :)

here's one  of Bunyip02's bug finds - post work in photodonut to get the sketchy effect

basically rendered bug with a glass shader and a toonpro! pass - combined it with an inverted depth pass set to multiply mode to shade some of the distant parts

Hya, I'm pretty sure I did, and dragged the 'one edges slifder' all the way to the left - but that's from memory - not gospel :)

here's a few renders straight out of Carrara that I thought were interesting - (well all  but one - the top middle one is toon pro overlaying the first image on the top left)

    - the water colour effect is obtained by doing a photon pass- and at least one of them has caustics turned on - the dark lines courtsey of toonpro!

the one with the most lines - the obj was bought in facetted/.???? and ended up as a primitive ??? I think that's what happened - then when I converted to mesh it lost all those lines (the ones that demark the tri gons)  - shader image attached - the shader uses easy Fresnel by shoe string shaders

It looks excellent.  However, I would like to ask for some clarification.  When you say "Toonpro!", are you in fact referring to Toon 3?  I've seen other posts where you said you used Toonpro, but you then posted settings for Toon 3.

ToonPro = plugin for Carrara that is not free.

Toon 3 (toon! pt III) = pluging native to Carrara.

In an attempt to make it easier to know what we are discussing, I have shortened "toon! pt III" to simply  "Toon 3."  People here, of course, can call it what they want.  But the suffix "pro" really adds confusion, if you aren't talking about the paid plugin.

For some reason, I'm not attracted to the character.  But I REALLY like the background!  It's perfect for an old SF cover.  If you don't mind me asking, how did you do it?

    Hello UB

The background I used is actually a premade background. When I do a quickie I sometimes use the background instead of doing a scene from scratch.

Its also very warm where I live at the moment with a heatwave of 36 to 37 degrees celcius, and my graphics computer starts making some awful fan noises at 30 to 31 so I am doing quick renders in the cool when I can. Currently its 29.5 degrees at 6.45 in the morning.

Background is by A_Sunbeam from the freebies at Rendo https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/strange-worlds/59714

    There is also :- https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/strange-worlds-2/60147

                          https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/strange-worlds-3/65287

                          https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/strange-worlds-4/65289

It's stated as being created by Artmatic Voyager.

And if you do a search at Rendo in the Freestuff for "background" you can find heaps of others.

Some are ordinary but there are some gems in there as well, useful for backgrounds in Carrara or as inspiration to model/kitbash something.

Thanks, background is a freebie as noted above.

  • Thanks for the info Bunyip.  You'll probably laugh, but I downloaded those Strange World backgrounds several months ago.  Kudos to you for actually opening and using them.yes

I guess that I am now on official product overload.blush

I have 2.77 GB of files in my "Backgrounds" folder which I sometimes use. Although I often browse through them for some inspiration.

Well if it gets too warm today I'll install Bryce on my laptop. Have tried both Carrara and DAZ3D on it, but it really struggles with them. Looking forward to some cooler weather.

thanks UB - apologies for being confusing. Yes it is Toon! Pro . I left off the '!" because i never know where it goes! Logically it should be at the end! Not! at the beginning of the end.

  • Ha, well I was probably more confused than you.  I was unaware that ToonPro had an exclamation point.  So, every time you used an exclamation point, I thought that you were talking about Toon 3.

Whoever is naming these plugins needs to find other work. :)

Have an old copy of Poser?  Here are Ichiro and Koshini in a relationship meme making the rounds.  Stacked filters are Toon 3, GMIC Film Emulation with Fuji preset, and GMIC artistic colored pencil.
