Installing 3rd party items into Daz 4.9 ???

It is more difficult to get things into Daz 4.9 than it was to install into daz 3.1 . I have a ton of third party items in zip+RAR folders. How, if anyone can tell me, does one get them to extract into Daz 4.9. I seem to be missing part of the process. I scanned the HDD and it located some stuff from Daz 3.1 and Poser 7,8,10,+12. I've watch tons of vids about the subject, can not seem to get it to work. I can not find my Daz3d folder that has daz 4.9 in it anywhere, to do it like the vids show. Can anyone help me. I know a lot of the older objects will not work in daz4.9, but I would like get it to work with as many as I can.

4.9 has fantastic rendering , looks really great.

    If you're installing manually, there have been absolutely no changes in how to do it. One possibility; you mentioned D|S3.1 and D|S4.9 separately, they should both use the same content location, when you installed 4.9 it should have picked up the existing content location used for 3.1. Do you still have 3.1 installed? Check both versions settings — look at the Content Directory Manager (Edit>Preferences>Content Library and click the Content Directory Manager button at the bottom). Open the DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats sections, that will show where D|S is looking for its content folders. Take a screen snapshot if you can, and post it here.

    Just noticed something else:

    I can not find my Daz3d folder that has daz 4.9 in it anywhere

    Are you looking for content in the same place as the D|S program? They ought to be separate; the default locations are your Program Files folder for the program, and your My Documents folder for the content files.

    I Have a messy PC , Daz 3.1 is easy enough and I c+p'ed your post to keep a copy to follow your dirrections. And a big thank you to you. I'll see what I can get done.

    I do think the rendering in 4.9 is very nice. Thanks again.

    As SpottedKitty said nothing has changes from DS 3 as to how libraries are mapped.  Ignore the Smart Content pane, ignore Products and Categories in the Content Library pane and whats left works just like v3.1.

    Well, I desided to uninstall daz4.9, to much of a head ache for this old man. But, an uninstaller just for daz 4.9 is nowhere to be found any where on my machine. I'll just stick with daz 3.1, seems to work fine for me. If any one can help me get this off without any damage to my older version, let me know. Otherwise I'll have to do a search and delete every thing with daz 4.9

    If you installed DS with DIM you uninstall with DIM.
