Giant Robots, no REALLY giant robots...

I'm being seduced by the giant robot theme and wish we had more GIANT robots.

The kind a crew could sit in. I'm inspired by these images...

We have a lot of Armored Core/Titan Fall scaled mechs, but...yeah.....

Look at the epic scale

Something Voltron size...fighting alongside Godzilla - something that would defend a planet.
Something so expensive and special, they only built one (and maybe lost the plans lol)

Cant one of you genius mecha-designers just scale your work up and add some less-functional doo-dads for efffect.- like a little more advanced technology built the robot?

All the ones in the shop are a little gundamish- old and a lot are more campy.

I have everything else. lol

I would love it if someone went beyond and went Macross scale, but still a Giant robot.

    Something THAT Big....would be awesome...

There are some personal battle suits that I thought of getting and scaling up myself as an experiment, but the feet and legs are always bent-backward-alien style.

I own all three of those. Those are cool, but I'm looking for a little more fantasy in the design and less current day designed by today's military.

    Thanks though....

    Robot horses too!

    Transformers?  Pacific Rim?

Yeah something like that. Willis Timmins or Tim Willis was kind enough to get towards an exo-suit that I modified and I got the robot of my dreams.

That guy has some skills, man.

A true Giant Robot would be super cool,  especially since a PA designed a very good Sentai character,  which is sitting in my library now waiting for a true Giant Robot -- or at least until my modeling skills are up to the task.

There's no reason you couldn't just use one of the available robotic sets, like this:

    https://www.daz3d.com/lg09-combat-mech

Then just scale it up to 500% or larger.

True, but interiors along the line of Pacific Rim or The Big O would be nice.

It's not just the size, it's the design. Look at the bot images I shared.

It's not the Armored Core (playstation video game reference) or the current titanfall design.

    That's a pure...mecha kind of thing....soldiers, dirt and oil...bullet casings.....loading up ammo.....a mechanic-shop-type hangar....

    Using a WRENCH on them.

    ================

I'm speaking more fantasy- the robot is massive.....Godzilla scale....I certainly don't want to see Godzilla fighting one of those mechs,,

I think it would look goofy, to be honest, a great render (depending) but kinda corny imagery.

That scale should be 20 of them ona mountainside firing at Godzilla to no effect....

I'm talking about going toe to toe- using a cerebral interface to control the robot...no hand levers and foot pedals....

    - maybe something semi-sentient....a god encased in armor..something you speak about in reverence....

    imagine that.

  • I can imagine it. I can also expect that it would need somewhere around 500k polygons minimum at base resolution to look right and you'd likely not want to apply any subdivision if you wanted reasonable render times without having access to a second dedicated rendering machine. And that's not counting the high resolution textures that would be used for some surfaces.

Well, no. You can scale it up. AND you can do a  texture to simulate scale...like metal panels.

I made this bashing suit parts based on the advice of Tim willis or Will Timmins...

This direction works, it just needs a little less human-form modeling.

Loosen up on the curves and you're there.

The head I did by combining bits of different helmets, and scaling and shoving one object inside another.

I have other accessories, but I'll wait till he's ready to arrive.

I have him already (Told you I grabbed almost EVERYTHING called robot/cyborg in the store lol)

BUT that would have been a  GREAT suggestion.

It's that he's a little, little too campy for this particular need.

This is what I got so far. And yeah, that's a full starship on his back - which is what the "crew" usually flies around in and it's also his interstellar jetpack. He can travel up to space unassisted, but can't go from planet to planet without help.

    That's for Carrara. :-)

  • Griffin AvidGriffin Avid Posts: 3,764

Don't feel bad. I spent the whole afternoon and lost all rendering momentum looking for a quad bike that was NOT in my library- not in files, not anywhere--- upon deep inspection and trawling through my orders, I saw that it's for Bryce and Carrara. WTF how did I NOT see that? I have no idea what to do now. I've had it for a while, I own carrara and bryce, but I installed carrara today and couldn't figure out a single thing in the interface. I was going to start one of those "How do I export..".threads, but I gave up and ended up buying a different vehicle AT FULL PRICE because, well, it's only right I discover I have a story-prop-hole AFTER March Madness.

I have a cowboy character but I just couldn't buy that horse for him. That chrome look, nah- it didn' fit.

Sorry I missed the compatibilty with your suggestion. I gotta watch that closer.

At least I woulda returned the horse- not sure what to do about the quad bike. I think I'll harass tim willis and see if he can tell me how to get the dang materials to load on the object.

    -----

But yeah, I love that robot. - The full starship, on his back, is over the top. But I'm down for someone to explore this direction.

It's weird how Deviant art has all these crazy robots and spaceships and landscapes and it doesn't seem to serve as an inspiration on Daz.

Daz is lacking in a  few areas. I want some real space cruisers and I think we need to break scale. Soooo the ship isn't scaled that big BUT you have different sized sets of outside areas that are props or expansions...the landing bay or airlock,,,, if you want to do the exterior zoom in to the bridge shot, you make that a separate set. You don't have to make the ship miles long. lol.

I would buy giant robots like Pacific Rim or Voltron sized.  Huge fan.

Thank you for adding on. I think I'll find another use for that horse aside from transportation.

    So would I.

Problem is, not enough mecha and anime fans are into the modeling and creation aspects of Daz,  so you're not getting that variety that a lot of people need to realize the stuff they want to render.   It's one of the reasons a while back that I asked if anyone knew of any Japanese sites for Daz users since I figured the odds would be greater of finding artists doing the type of stuff I was looking for.

Man,  I caught some unexpected flak for that!  You'd think I'd insulted someone.
