Generating outer space/ space-scapes...

This might not belong here, but looking to generate some really beautiful outerspace scenes..

art level: Fantastic. Saw the Bryce 7.1 Space Construction kit and wasn't convinced it was as SIMPLE as they claim.

And it was $17 AFTER DISCOUNTS....sheeesh.

Watched the alpha tutorial and thought, 'No, I don't want that to be what I'm doing everytime I want an outerspace scene'

I have something that generates planets already and it's pretty good. BUT for space backdrops, it uses a static HD-dome-kinda-image AND you can't add your own.

And there are no serious plans to add more...

I usually generate space in Photoshop using noise and filters and such and I have a bunch of galaxy or cosmos photoshop brushes that get it done too.(Thanks Deviney/Ron)..

So I figure most of the embellishing post work will still be done in photoshop to get super crazy effects-- Cosmic dust...flares...bursts..etc..

I also have a vector-ish abstract graphic generator (that I mentioned here once and had the post deleted).

The new HDRI product looks too confusing and I have no idea what it does or what I'm actually getting...but it says you get X-number of planets/props, So I already feel limited since I'm not really trying to stay in this galaxy. lol

I found this crazy thing FOR FREE that makes random space scenes - probbaly good enough to add and do some edits later....

http://wwwtyro.github.io/procedural.js/space/

This is what that does. I genrated it at Ultra HD and shrunk it down to place here.

I think that FREE web-based applet might be the solution (for now)

So how come iray doesn't have something bigger better and badder. This seems like an easy one for them.

Imagine also if we combined that will some of those animated particles...oh man...oh man...

What is everyone doing for outer space?

Would love a one-stop solution that is worthy of standalone art.

It's not really Daz's thing... I mean, someone could make up a plugin?

My advice is wait until FilterForge is on sale (it's stupidly expensive normally, IMO, but it's occasionally on 80% off sales). It is just about the best 2d texture generator I've found, plus it ALSO is an amazing filter thing, plus it has thousands and thousands of usermade filters you can load with no additional cost.

This, for example, is pretty much exactly what you are looking for, if I understand it right: https://filterforge.com/filters/8383.html

Oh yes, I have seen that...

    Good suggestion, well done again....

But for now, that plus is the ace.

Hmmm it generates .PNG files. How did that format become so popular all of a sudden.

I mean, this forum lets up upload in that format. Very suprised.

I used to only use it for 'export with transparency' now it's a lot of programs default...

Did I miss something in the art world while I was away making music?

PNG is (potentially) lossless. Just about every jpeg is lossy. Jpeg stinks for image fidelity, and as bandwidth and storage gets cheaper jpeg's advantage of small size gets less advantageous.
