Daz started crashing everytime I close it - SOLVED

FrankTheTankFrankTheTank Posts: 1,224

This just started happening: anytime I close Daz Studio it crashes. Even if I just open it, don't load a scene or do anything, and then close it a minute later, it comes up with a crash window.

I"ve tried rebooting, it still does the same thing. It was working fine last night, even earlier today. I haven't changed anything on my computer or installed anything other than some DAZ purchases.

Is there anything else i should try before I submit a help ticket? (I already know that customer support probably won't help me because I use DS 4.8)

(I can attach the actual bug report if anyone knows how to make heads or tails out of it)

Were any of the items you installed plug-ins?

Quite possibly. I installed a bunch of stuff at once that I've purchased over the past few weeks, and haven't had time to test everything yet. Let me start looking through my list and see what plug-ins/tools I picked up.

If you have added new plug-ins you can use Help>About Installed Plug-ins to selectviely disable them, restarting DS after each is dsiabled, to see if one of them is the cause of your crashing.

So I've looked through all my purchases and I don't have any new plug-ins.

There's nothing showing as greyed out, everything is green as it should be.

I did pick up some shader tools, like Anagenessis 2.0 and Iray Smart Converter, also the Subsurface Workshop, but the rest of my stuff is just typical stuff, props, sets, clothing, etc. So I'm at a loss why its crashing when I close.

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Daz Studio just for the heck of it, but that didn't fix it either. I guess I'll just submit a bug report and maybe they can tell whats going on from the log file.

ok, i figured it out. It had something to do with my workspace layout. I reset my layout back to a previous saved layout and the problem went away.

I wonder why your workspace layout would cause that. I run Daz Studio on an older MacBook Pro and a much higher powered 1-year-old PC. I don't know if it's an OS issue or a hardware issue, but Studio *always* crashes on exiting on the Mac and it usually takes several minutes. I think I read somewhere that on closing, Studio does some sort of memory cleanup and for whatever reason this process seems to crash the program.

I don't know, it hasn't happened again since. I have 2 layouts saved, one that I use for animation and 1 that I use for still images. They both work fine, but I must have done something that Daz didn't like, when I reverted back to my saved layout(s) it didn't happen again.

I can confirm that. I had the crashes on closing Daz Studio too. After reading about your personal solution, I also reset my layout back to a previous one and the problem went away likewise. Thank You.

The same thing is happening to me...I haven't changed my layout for months...will change it and see what happens.

Yes, that worked...thank you...now to see if I can get it back to my working layout.

  • If u added new task tab at the top, it can cause crashes. You can delete the offending one and recreate it.

i just wanted to post a note that changing workspace to a default and then recustomizing did the trick.

Glad I found this post, I just started having this, I created 4 views... one for my staging, animation, a wide screen view and one for VR (Left/Right), turns out mine was fine but then after I updated the one view it started crashing... I reverted to a "stock" view and it was fine when I closed.  It doesn't appear to damage anything on exit, just annoying.  So, either use the view and then revert to a Daz view before closing or just ignore the error msg I guess.
