Can we really trash the Metadata installer files?

Spent a couple of hours searching the forum, but I couldn't find a definitive answer. The KB article Understanding Content File Types says:
'Metadata': These files are not needed for any application. They were originally intended for use with other applications outside of DAZ Studio, but this is no longer necessary. They may be disregarded. EXAMPLES: 4794_AmarsedaHairDSMetaData_1.1_ds, 3170_V4SkinMapsHRDSMetaData_1.1_ds
Is this true? I plan on using DIM to reinstall my content, and if I can get rid of all the metadata files for the non-DIM-ready content it would be a good thing, if it won't break Smart Content.

You can safely trash any metadata installer. The metadata is always present in the product installer. Previously, DAZ distributed the metadata installers, but the metadata always was present in the main product installer.
If you plan to use DIM to reinstall your content, a fresh metadata will be installed with the product, obviously only products which have it.
If you have no plane on using the content manager in DS then you can trash your meta data.
Thanks for that!

I do plan on using the content manager/library and smart content features of DS 4.5. Does your comment only apply to earlier versions of DS?
