D-formers - what ISN'T an item with geometry?

This is my first attempt at using a D-former - I'm using the Kawaii dress with the hood, and want to expand the hood so the character's hair doesn't poke through (really, should have been part of the product). I figured, like in Poser, I would select the hood and apply a magnet, or in D|S, a d-former, yes? But with the 'head' of the dress selected, when I try to create the d-former, I get an error message saying I have to select an item in the scene with geometry.
How is part of an item of clothing NOT an 'item in the scene with geometry?' It clearly HAS geometry, and it has controls to move it around, so it seems like an item to me.

When item was DAZ triax weight or DAZ general weight figure, D-former need to apply root node of the item. Most of items (rigged) offered for genesis figures should be rigged as DAZ sutdio weight map . i
Even if actual poligons are separated, and assgined with different group, D-former just see the mesh as one. then need to apply with root node.
As your case, you need to select the root node of Kawaii dress, then apply D-former. To adjust weight influence for hood only, you can try to apply D former influence weight map, then controll influence weight. (paint or erase influence weight map, or use selection tool, then fill weight etc)
