Jim Farris' Telepresence Unit

on sharecg, i saw this awesome freebie: Telepresence Unit - and yes, the creator specified it is for poser only, since it uses special effects.
of course, i just HAD to try it, and as expected, it doesn't work. i tried fumbling, but since i have no clue how this actually works in poser, no idea what i could change in the mat settings or which new lighting models i could add or what render settings could do what - and i'm not particularly gifted when it gets technical.. ~
however, this upload is now 5 years old, things have meanwhile changed in DS (iray for example, or different lighting sources like AoA's...) - so has anyone tried to adapt this freebie recently, or does anyone have an idea, if & how this could be made to work?
reasons i thought might be the issue:
1) Jim wrote "make sure that 'remove backfacing polys' is switched on in your render settings" - is that actually possible in DS?
2) i'm not sure that when i load the prop its surface/mat ( i mean the "screen" part/surface, which makes the sfx) is translated into DS, or if it loses properties.
alternatively, has anyone seen a prop making the same effect? it's brilliant! ^^

Which bit isn't working? In 3Delight you could pwGhost for the holographic figure, or you could render twice (with andcwithout the figure) and layer the results.
pwghost might be a solution if nothing else works, yes, giving something similar to a holo picture (i wishlisted the holo shaders.. but yeah).
though, when i pwghosted the figure, it didn't give this "striped" intermittent effect that the "screen" element/surface brings - my figure is flat, even if i can vary the transparency. in addition, on the promo, the transmitted person has their normal clothing on - with pwghost you get those ghosty hues with all presets (ok, i could try to change the ambient or "color giving" hue of every garment surface to get near to this i guess. but the on/off stripes, no way, and it's what really made the effect fun..
this was a good idea tho', in case nothing else is feasible, thanks!
EDITED TO ADD: i found an old thread, and downloaded both yours & AoA's versions of the double sided shader. just a hunch, because polygon sides etc. problem: in the opacity channels of both, you can give a color value but no map (the stripes). that might have worked, though really, no clue...
