Old Materials in Newer Daz Studio

You know that super-glossy look that you get in DS when you load materials meant for older versions of Poser, or maybe older versions of DS (presumably before some change in the way lighting or rendering worked)? I know I can just go in and dial down specular strength, play with glossiness, etc., but that got me wondering if there might be a bit more I could do.
Is there maybe a thread or page somewhere with a guide on how to snazz up these older materials and get them to look better in DS 4.x, or a script that will automagically tweak a material's settings, something like that?

There are scripts:
These are basically shaders for Iray that keep the original maps (if so desired). They specialize in converting cloth, metal, latex, leather, plastic, etc.
There may be other products that do similarly (and I'd be interested in hearing about them if anyone knows any), but those are the three I use.
Darn, should have specified I don't use Iray. Not yet. Renders too slow on my current rig. But I'll keep those in mind for when I do use Iray, thanks.
While we're on the subject of converters, as I sit and
load old material onto v4>save material (uncheck all>check all modified only)>undo load material
Repeat 50 times to convert every old preset in the character to current DS formats,
I can't help but think this is the kind of thing that scripts were invented for.
Well there are the batch converters such as https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-batch-converter-to-genesis-2-female-s
