I finally tried 4.9 but I'm very sad - how can an update work so much worse? Mac

I've been putting off trying anything other than 4.6 because I have several very complex animation projects going on, complex in number of animated objects, lighting, and custom altered surfaces. I've actually been working on parts of it for years. I didn't want to be set back, having to correct things I'd already slaved over when I first put it together which not only did happen but also the new install seems almost unusible as far as I can see.

I work between two computers - an i5 iMac in one location and a fairly hot 6 core Hackintosh in another. (Spec screen shot is below). Everything was working satisfactory, concidering the complexity of the projects. To be short some thing happened to the iMac which didn't allow me to login anymore. Weird? - No one could figure it out. So I decided to delete my account, reload all my files from backup, and start everything new. I figured that as long as I was doing that, I would update everything, meaning the Os from Lion to Sierra 10.12.4 and put on Daz Studio 4.9 Beta as suggested here (so I could still run 4.6 if I had trouble). That's what I did.

Got everything loaded and running. Funny, DS 4.6 was broken apon OS install. So then I installed DS 4.9 Beta Public build. I linked it to the old assets directories and Daz found everything. I had to reautherize Keymate and Graphmate. When running 4.9, everything runs in slow motion! You click on anything! -  menu, tool, or control, it takes 1.5-3 seconds to respond. Wow! I loaded a very simple animation which I knows runs (2 animated objects and a few primative objects not surfaced used for referance).  It ran on 4.6 on that machine with Lion and on the Hackintosh with Yosemite but on the new install unusable. Not only does it take more than a second to simply to click on stuff but the fastest frame speed that runs when playind the animation is about 1 frame every 2 seconds or more. It skips 100 or 200 frames at a time between movement.  Not usable. Strangly enough it does render a frame around the same time as before or so. However lighting is not as saved and some lights (AoA) do not work at all. Every light needed adjustment to get close.

I looked all around for settings to make it run better but I could find nothing. All the hardware is exactly the same only the Os and Daz Version (4.6 to 4.9) is different. Just for laughs. I reloaded Studio 4.6 on that machine and loaded the exact same project and Puff!!!.  The animation runs perfectly! It even runs smoother than my 6X faster Hackintosh - although I have two 24" 1080 and one 40" 2160 monitors connected to that computer which might have something to do with that. Any way it works just as it should, same hardware, same new operating system. DS 4.6.

Any thoughts?? What am I doing wrong? Should this be??

Thanks in advance

Steve

Daz studio>Prefrences>Interface tab, check the Display Optimisation setting (Try Better, then Best).

Yes I tried al those setings.  I even went in to 4.6 made all the settings the same. Still doesn't work.

I forgot to mention that when first started, 4.9 gives this error message. I don't know what it is but I assume that it has to do with Daz Connect which I could care less because I install everything manually but could this be leading to the problem?? Sorry I forgot it but like I said, I didn't think it would have anything to do with the actuall software just the content database.

I also didn't mention that I have since delayed the decission to upgrade to 4.9 on the Hackintosh.

    Thank You

    Steve

It may well have soem impact on speed, I'm not sure how much. You should be able to fix that by installing PostgreSQL (from DIM). If it's already isntalled then you may well have permission issues on your folders, which could certainly affect speed.

    OK,

I think I am getting closer to the problem and I am sorry to say that it is starting to truley seem that KEYMATE is the problem!  Let me explain. I decided to continue working in 4.6 and forget about 4.9 for now but first I had to authorize Keymate and GraphMate on the new install of 4.6 on the Sierra machine. The minute I did that, the 4.6 version that was working before, started to act pretty much like the 4.9 beta problem I was having. Not exaclty but very close!!

I unautherized KEYMATE from the 4.9 Beta version (That's all I did) and the two old animations that would not run faster than 1 frame out of  every 110 frames in a row finally started to run smoothly and the very complex animation (with Hundreds of moving objects in it ran through reasonably, if not a little jumpy(but that's the way it runs on my faster Yosemite machine) ).  Yey!!!  I re-autheroized KEYMATE and it returned to broken. Unauthorized it. Good again. I did it back and forth to the 4.6 version as well to the same results.  So It is something to do with KEYMATE with Sierra because KEYMATE is ALL I use on my Hackintosh with Yosemite. I love it,,, untill now!

I don't know if anyone has reported this KEYMATE problem in Seirra. I'll have to look back,,,, no didn't see. I'll have to some contact GoFigure.. See what They say.

What do you think? Might there be any other old software plugins that might cause problems like this?

    Thanks,

    Steve

I confirm the complain of the opening post
    --> https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/161031/daz-4-9-3-166-degradation-of-iray

In the reply on my bug-report Customer Service suspected one of the intermediate iray updates.
So some of the quality decrease depends on the plugin apps.

For anyone interested. I contacted both GoFigure and DAZ about this problem.

GoFigure did not respond but DAZ say they are doing some tests with Sierra and they will include the problem I reported with Keymate.
