dufs wouldn't save where they opened from
![alan bard newcomer](https://farnsworth-prod.uc.r.appspot.com/forums/uploads/userpics/940/n180DGD57MI6K.jpg)
I have thousands of scenes... they are not in one huge file but broken into folders by subject etc.
---
but when I double click and open one and then go to save it again... it takes me to where it wants to save it and doesn't even carry the file name into the save bar...
---
don't see a spot in the preferences to address this
---
amd even if I open it via the open command window it still goes to the last place I saved as opposed to where I opened the file.
---
lots of times I upgrade the file so I do save it under a new name...
but as a side effect of the teeny weeny itsey bitsiy previews sometimes I have to open a file to figure what it really was
---
any fix or work around?

Ds won't save, rather than Save As with a file dialogue, unless the author name for the scene matches the current author name in DS - that's to stop you from overwriting asset files by accident.
If you use the + button at the bottom of the Content Library pane it will open the save dialogue to that folder - assuming it's a real folder, not a Daz Connect virtual folder.
these are files that are on E a back up drive
the regualar data files are on G
and the prg is on C...
---
it will save new files to the file I choose on G...
but any old files that are double clicked or opened via the open command it also wants to save to the new save folder as opposed to where they are
---
if I save under the same name in the new location then I have two copies of the file
if I save under a new name than I still end up with two copies which ends up creating more bookkeeping time instead of working time.
---
from a programmers stand point... if it shows the file name in the top bar... then the prog knows the name of the file and it's hard to believe there isn't a link to where the file was opened from and lacks the ability to put it back there.

If the Author matches it should do a straight save, without a file dialogue, to the original location. Are you saying that File>Save (cmd/ctrl s) is not throwing up a file dialogue but is placing the file in a different directory?
it brings up a dialoge with basically the save as option... ignores the file name and goes to the place I am saving new files and doesn't fill in the file name
instead of just saving the file in the old location. I would assume the author is the same but I've done new installs of daz since they were created
Have you filled in the Author name in Edit>Preferences? If you select one of the old fikles in a content pane the pop-up or the Info tab should give the author name for that.
