daz not finding objects that are in their place.

I had a data loss ... so a lot of my daz data had to be rebuilt to get the files to load without the long file not found lists...
---
but I opened a scene to a lot of "blocks" that said can't find the file ... and they were all objects that had been imported.
---
the problem is they are all in the file where they came from...
---
I can reimport them one a time with the import function ... so the objs are there and functioning... but daz doesn't want to see them during the opening sequence....
---
the gray box is the non-imported obj from the scene opening...
and the hood is the obj imported from the same file folder that daz can't see it.
---
here's what daz says isn't found... plane parts/0 fire/hop wall work/40 ford pickup/40fordpuhood.obj
---
the second picture shows the path to the one I imported ...

How many objects didn't load? You might be able to replace them edit > object > geometry > update base geometry

  • about 50....  the model is dismantled down into tiny pieces...

selecting the "block" elicits the comment with that the update requires an object with geometry .. which it didn't load...

will just close the scene..  over write the objects with themselves and open again...

I think all possible fixes would turn out to be tedious. Good luck!

Are the OBJ files in a content directory - Poser Format or Import formats? If not, or if the relative path in the scene file starts higher or lower in the tree, then the fact that they are where they were won't help.

according to the missing file report ... it's looking where they are...  that's what makes no sense...
while they are mtl and object files... I have a folder in my content directory where they reside... (my way of keeping order)
so in my personal directory under Bard is 3 dmax ex(port) plane parts >0 fire>hop wall work>40 ford pickup
as shown below...  since daz doesn't display the actual files... they don't show in content lib... but it as least I have a clue where I created them
(and whoops, guess I need to reorganiize some folders.. so the names make sense cause the truck is buried in a tree that starts with plane parts then to a firestation then to some NY building based on Edward Hoppers painting ...then to a pickup truck...
and the daz missing file report says that's where it's looking
    "plane parts/0 fire/hop wall work/40 ford pickup/40fordpickupbed.obj
    plane parts/0 fire/hop wall work/40 ford pickup/40fordpickupcab.obj
    plane parts/0 fire/hop wall work/40 ford pickup/40fordpickupframe2.obj
    plane parts/0 fire/hop wall work/40 ford pickup/40fordpickuprearfenders.obj
    plane parts/0 fire/hop wall work/40 ford pickup/40fordpubedstripes.obj"
but these are all listed as missing files...

That's a Daz Studio Format directory, for OBJ (as far as I know) you need the path set under Poser Formats or Import Formats.

If these are models are ones you imported in to Studio, like Wavefront objects, they where converted to Studio geometry format and placed in an "auto-adapted" folder inside the "data" folder of one of library folders when the scene was saved.  The saved scene's references points to those auto adapted files so if you didn't back them up Studio of course can't find them.

  • in the first pictures at the top...  the hood that looks like a hood was imported from the folder location that daz said it was looking at...the box under it is the one that daz stuck there because the file at the location was missing...
    ---
it is possible that there were autoadated parts that got lost... but shouldn't the failed search path reflex where Daz put those parts..
there is a data folder in the 00 Bard folder that contains the auto adapted folder...
but the missing files message doesn't reference looking there... just says that they aren't in the "40 ford pickup" folder, which is where they are...

If the AutoAdapted files aren't found DS will try to import the OBJ, but as I said above the path does have to be set as a Poser or Import content directory as well as a s a DS content directory.

  • thanks for the input..
but it remains weird... I reopened the scene and got the same list of missing objects not found in the 00 Bard/3 dmax ex/plane parts/0 fire/hop wall work/40 ford pickup folder...
but there are objects that did appear and the only place they exist is that file path in the folder that Daz says the other ones are missing from.
And I can use the import function on the "missing objects" and import them.
    ---
I was thinking that the files might be damaged .. but if they were damaged Daz couldn't import them... so they must be valid files...
    ----
    ++++
I did check my auto adapted folder and there are about 1000 files there but the common thread seems to be they were things I build up from primitives and perhaps put together in ways that the standard save can't anotate?

Yes, AutoAdapted is converted imported mesh that had not been saved as an asset before the scene/scene subset was saved.
