Just installed DAZ3d but one the install manager installed it, it didn't open the software. I'm confused and can't find the icon of the software either. I have a mac os 10.6. Any ideas?

Do you mean you have the DAZ Install Manager installed and working, and you tried to use it to install DAZ Studio? Or is it the Install Manager you are having trouble with? If the former, you can use the Install Manager to install the content but you still need to download and install the application - and you will need to reimport the metadata then, as you won't have had the Content Management Service until DS itself is installed so nothing will be in Smart Content.

OK. I thought the application would be installed when I installed the content. Do I have to buy the app or how can i get it? I got the serial number but don't know how to use. Thank you so much for responding!

You have to "buy" it, but it's free - if you have a serial number you may already have done so, in which case you just need the Mac installers for the main application, and if you have Photoshop or ZBrush the bridge or GoZ plugins. All will be in your Available downloads on your account page.

Ok. So I "bought" it, installed the content with the Install Manager. It says that Genesis Starter Essential and PoserCF are installed. However, I can't find any files to install the app and it didn't launch itself after I installed those contents. What file in specific should I look for to install the actual software? Is there an article that shows the entire installation process? I found one but it doesn't say how to install the app.

    Thanks!

The DIM (DAZ Install Manager) is a seperate piece of software to install CONTENT only.

It does not download or install DAZ Studio for you, and you have to go to My Account and find 'My Downloadable Products', and then you will need to download the application, either 32 bit or 64 bit for Mac, depending on what you need.

The DAZ Install Manager only came out this week, and it is not yet ready for installing the application itself, only content for DAZ Studio

I just tried to save a DAZ scene and it just didn't work, it was a error message, then I uninstalled everything, Content Manager include, and downloaded everything again, but it didn't work, I can't just launch DAZ application.

    Thanks

We would need much more information to help you. It would have been better to start a new thread, this thread is over a year old, and things have changed, but just leave it for now.

    Hi

I just tried to save a DAZ scene and it just didn’t work, it was a error message, then I uninstalled everything, Content Manager include, and downloaded everything again, but it didn’t work, I can’t just launch DAZ application.

    Thanks

Well the save Scene part is no longer valid, since you reinstalled DAZ Studio.

How did you install DAZ Studio, using the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) or did you install it yourself?
What folder did you install DAZ Studio into?
Did you get an icon on the Desktop to run DAZ Studio?
What happens when you double click on the icon to run DAZ Studio?

What Operating System are you using, and is it the 64 bit or 32 bit version?

When you get an error message, it is important to tell us what the message contained, there are many kinds of error messages.

Hi JimmyC_2009, thanks a lot for replying so fast!

    I did installed with DIM.
    Program Files ( x86 )
No. As DAZ didn't run before I instaled, I went right there and it was missing.
    There's no icon at all.

I'm going to check the OS sooner, I'm at work, and I use DAZ at home.

I'm slightly scared because I'm in the middle of a nice illustration job, with a deadline not so nice, and DAZ is kind of fundamental for that.

When you get home, check DIM.

Go to the Installed tab, find DAZ Studio on it, right click on it, and click on Show Installed Files. That will tell you what (if anything) was installed, and where it was put. These are also clickable links, and will take you straight to the installation folder.

You can try running DS from there, or right click on the EXE icon, and select Send To > Desktop (Create shortcut) to put it onto the Desktop.

It sounds to me like it did not install at all, but DIM will tell you. If you used the default install location for DIM, you should find a log file in
C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager and that may give more information.

Sorry, but I'm quite a little tech dumb.

What's Installed tab? What's DS? Actually in Program Files there's no DAZ icon, just DIM.

    DS = DAZ Studio

The Installed tab is in the interface of the DIM. When you run the DIM (DAZ Install Manager), there are three tabs visible in the interface, 'Ready to Download,', 'Ready to Install and 'Installed''.

If you have installed DS, then it would be in C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 for the 32 bit version, or
    C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 for the 64 bit version.

    Which one did you install?

You have to download DAZ Studio from the 'Ready to Download' tab, it will then appear in the 'Ready to Install 'tab. If you have the 'Install after Download' box ticked, it will install automatically, if not, you have to install it yourself from the 'Ready to Install' tab.

It looks like it didn't actually install, as the list of files is grayed out for the actual program. Can you click the gear icon in the upper right (Settings) and post a screenshot of the Installation tab?

The Install Manager is looking for Program Files, but your system is using Portuguese, so you may need to change it to
'Arquivos de Programas' using the button beside the path to browse to the correct folder.as shown below.

If that is not the problem, then it may be an Anti Virus program that is preventing DIM from installing DAZ Studio.

    I posted this before :

You would need to go here, and see what error messages there are in the log file to give us some clues.

That looks missing, the Anti Virus stuff is likely to doing that, though I have no idea how disable that in a secure way.

On the Desktop, select the icon for the DIM, right-click, and select 'Run as administrator' from the drop-down menu.

See if that works, if not, you may have to go into your antivirus software and allow DAZ Install Manager as a trusted application.

You gouls use Google to find out how to do that.

    Exception done, I think.

    And then I do what?

Now when you run DIM, it should be allowed to install DAZ Studio into Program Files. Program Files AND Program Files(x86), are protected areas in the Windows Operating System.

If your exception does not work, the only thing I can think of, is to stop AVG until you get DAZ Studio installed, it only takes a few minutes, then switch it back on again. That may cause small problems later on, but at least we would know the cause.

Sorry my dumbness, but I can't figure out how to install DAZ files, the DIM interface seems the same as it was to me.

There will be no Visible change. It means that your Operating System should now allow the program to be installed. Nothing Visible was done to Anything DAZ related. The change was to get your system to allow things to install using the DIM program.

EDIT: Just because the DIM thinks your items are installed does not mean they truly did install on your computer.

Jaderail is right, you wont see any difference, but you will need to uninstall DAZ Studio again, because DIM thinks it is installed.

Go to the Installed tab, put a checkmark in the box beside DAZ Studio, and click on the Start Queue button, this will uninstall DAZ Studio.

Now go to the Ready to Install tab, check the box, and install DAZ Studio from there. We hope that this time, the Anti Virus program will allow DIM to install DAZ Studio.

    I got it.

DAZ it's running properly right now, but when I save a scene, it shut's down, with a DAZ message of fatal error. Weird, I can't attach the log error.

What folder are you trying to save the Scene file to?

You should save the Scene file into a folder inside your 'My DAZ 3D Library' folder, NOT Program Files.

  • edited December 1969

I used to save my scenes in folders in C drive, it was never an issue. Or were I doing it wrong all the time and something changed when DAZ updated?

Look at the bottom of the log file, Help > Troubleshooting > View Log File, and see if you can find the error message that you get when the Scene wont save.

The best thing to do, is to create a new folder inside your 'My DAZ 3D Library' called 'My Scenes' or something similar. Then save all of your scenes in there. You can also create sub-folders too if required.

  • edited December 1969

I tried to save that as a Scene Subset inside Scenes in My Library and it shut down again.

I saw the Troubleshooting, but it's rocket science to me. I hit Ctrl + F and type error, and it shows lots and lots of errors. And it looks different to the errorlog I saved, and none of them are the same as the log txt saved to.

    I'm quite desperate.

Click on View Log file, then go to the very bottom of the file (usually Ctrl+End on Windows) . DAZ Studio adds to the log file every time you open the program again, so what you are looking for, is the LAST session that you used.

When you load DAZ Studio, go to the View Log File, go to the bottom of the file, and then look above that to the END of the previous session.

You should see '+++++++++++++++ DAZ Studio 4.6.2.118 starting +++++++++++++++++' for each time you have loaded DAZ Studio recently. Find the one before the current one, and see if it gives any clues.

Try this, run DAZ Studio, load a single character (any character) and save it to your content library by using File > Save As > Scene. You seem to be using 'My Library', but eh DIM installs to 'My DAZ 3D Library' so use that one.
