D|S Canvases (aka Render Passes)

Has anyone been successful in getting the Normal, Depth, and Distance passes working in the latest D|S? I get either a full black or full white image. All the others seem to work fine though.
The Normal pass gives me full black, but I was expecting the standard blue/orange normals image.
And does anyone know the difference between Depth and Distance? One gives me full black and one full white.
Thanks.

Hold on...I think I got the Normals working. The Render window shows full black, but I bring the EXR into Photoshop and it has the normals image.
Oh wait...the Depth and Distance are EXR...my PS doesn't like. I think I need a plugin for that.
Nevermind :)
Which version of Photoshop do you have? Theer is an HDR Equalisation command in CS6 at least which goes a long way to sorting them out, though the handling is not one of Photoshop's better features.
Nah, I'm stuck with CS4. I don't think it likes EXR's, and neither do any of the EXR plugins.
I also tried Nuke, but that doesn't seem to like EXR's either. Which is why I hate EXR's.
By the way, does the Shader Mixer system allow you to specify render passes? It looks like there are bricks to access the data, but I don't see any output bricks to save the individual passes.
