How to adjust origin?

Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,041

So the center point (as per Joint Editor) of an object I'm working on is at X 31.51, Y -82.19, Z 0.

How do I make that the 0/0/0 position of the object? To center the object I have to set it to -31.51, +82.19. That's weird and I'm clearly missing something

What do you want to do - move the centrepoint to the world origin, changing its position relative to the object, or keep the centrepoint where it is relative to the object and move the object to place that at the world origin? Or something else?

I'm very interested in this answer. I personally would like to know how to move the actual centerpoint to world origin, especially for hair. It's a royal pain trying to rotate and scale an object that's at "head-height" when it's controls are "on the floor!"

The hotpoint and object appears to be lined up at the 0,0,0 world origin, but that required me to essentially 'compensate' for the hotpoint location in Translation.

I want the object's indicated position to be 0,0,0 in it's current position (which is -31.51, +82.19, 0). I THOUGHT moving the centerpoint would do it, but... nope.

    Here's a screenshot.

The centerpoint of the object is at world center.

How did you get to that point? If I load an OBJ that isn't on the floor its origin is at the bottom of the bounding box, but I can fix that without affecting its parameters by moving the centrepoint.

I moved the object. I tried moving the points earlier but it didn't change the object location

To move the object you need to place it where youn want, export as OBJ, and import that.

That's very interesting to hear that this is possible. Now: how do you change the centerpoint of the world origin? A www-search didn't bring any answer to that quastion except for your post. I'm looking forward to the solution!

mCasual's script mcjZeroOrigin can do this. Released May 1th 2018 7:34AM

@thilion no surprise your search didn't get useful results - wrong questions: you CAN NOT change the centerpoint of the world origin

You CAN move anything in the scene to change the possition of the world origin relative to the scene items. Parenting anything to a Group node and move it can help you with that. There are other threads regading this subject.

If we are meaning the same thing, use the Joint Editor to move the centre point (green crosshairs).

  • @thilion With the Joint Editor tool selected open the Tool Settings pane where you can see the coordinates and enter precise numbers. If its a figure not a prop/item you want to edit make shure the root node is selected - this is the most upper part of the figure in the Scene pane.

  • Thanks! Right the answer I was looking for ...

Can anyone tell me if the World Origin can be moved? With Daz studio every opject added lands in the same place. I would like to choose where that place is. For example, I would like to add an object to a predetermine place in relation to other props and figures in my scene (a place other then the defaul World Origin).
