Items in scene loading as grey boxes or not showing at all.

I've read the other references I could find to similar problems on the forum. Not all of the objects are rigged. They are things as simple as primitive furniture, trays, static hair props. I tried unparenting them to see if this helps them load in a scene. Sometimes they show as grey boxes, and sometimes they are not visible at all. I tried rendering them, finding that the grey boxes don't show in the render, and neither to the objects that loaded as invisible. If I close DAZ and restart, then reload the same scene, some of the objects that were invisible or grey boxes might load in properly. This would be a workaround, except that in complex scenes, I am often swapping one set of grey boxes or invisible objects for another when reloading. It's very difficult to get it all to load properly. Anyone have an diea what would cause some simple objects not to load properly with a scene? I investigated the prior answer I found on the forum, "rigged objects parented to rigged objects," and that is not the common denominator. It's not that everything is a grey box; it happens mostly to old, simple props. I read in another thread where someone had the data stored in a write-protected folder, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Are you not getting an alert about missing assets?
For Myds: Since you haven't indicated any missing assets error mesage, the first thing that comes to mind is directly related ti an issue that I'm having. Immediately to the left of the DefaultCamera indicator is an icon to change the view draw styles (see attach4) Pic 1 below shows a V4 figure painted with a grid pattern that I use for various testing purposes; this the texture shaded draw option. The second pic is the Bounding Box draw option, which very closely matches what you describe. The third pic is an invisible item after being loaded, which is what I'm getting with one particular model.

No missing asset message. And different objects of the same type (table, tray) are in the scene. Some will load fine, others will be invisible or grey. The genesis, v4, and lorenzo/loretta lorez figures show up fine. On my last load, the three tables and about a dozen instances of tables loaded great, and two out of three trays loaded, while one became a grey box. (They are the same object type) I messed with the draw style drop-down to no avail. The remaining grey box stayed as such.
If it helps, the grey box renders as blank, but other examples (not instances) of the same object do not.
Wow, that is really puzzleing. Have you tried loading those same three trays in a blank scene all by their lonesome? The only other suggestion I can think of is to delete the third tray and replace it with a Node Instance of one of the other two.
Check the log file - Help>Troubleshooting>View Log - starting at the end (just after loading a scene and having the missing items).
Thanks for the suggestions. Will-do. I haven't tried instancing yet in the case of the trays, as they ahve different contents sitting on top, but a provisional solution is relaoding the object and posing it again, which is a bit of a pain, because the image above is of a low-res V3 background actor, and re-posing a bunch of background objects is terrible.
I had the same problem. It's the rig showing for some reason. Just make the rig (and all children) invisible. Hope this helps!
I'm late to the party here, but this may be related. I get either nothing at all or grey boxes. I am missing "auto adapted" files. More about it at the following link from someone who found the solution.

Could it be something to do with DS 4.12? I had the same problem with just one item in an old set which didn't previously have the problem, yet the block item rendered correctly. There was no missing asset message. I just wonder about the 4.12 as I've had other glitchy problems I've never had before, one being every time I do a small spot render in 3DL it takes anything from 3 to 11 minutes even to begin.
