Dragon Drool

I'm trying to use the Carrara particle system to make dragon drool, but I end up with either too many metaballs all seperate or one big metaball that looks like a smoo....

I'm guessing that it has something to do with gravity and collision and the number of shapes.....before I go mad with the endless variables I'm going to have to tweak, has anyone done this before who would be willing to share the setting used?

I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thanks for reading...


I'm trying to do this for an animation---I need a dragon head to rise up, eyes narrow and open mouth letting drool drip and pool on floor. If this was a static image, i'd use post work....

    The free PyCloid plugin seems to work the best for me.
    Here is a video I did awhile back to simulate water.

    You will need to play with the settings, since I was after a thinner liquid than dragon drool. ;)

    That's really neat, McGuiver.
    Gonna have to try that. So what's the vertex object in there? Is it an actual mess or something that the plugin uses to make the iso object?

    The vertex object is the object I used to emit the particles. Any object can be a particle emitter.

    Isosurface is what is being emitted (the fluid)...... You could also emit objects.

    I haven't had the time to master the plugin, but it seems to be more versatile than Carrara's built-in particle system.

    this is probably a very stupid question... but is it possible to use any of this with DAZ?
    make it in carrara and import to daz? import a DAZ file to carrara?

    You could freeze the particle simulation, and export as a .obj. Not sure how it could be done animated. Maybe a plugin?

    Better yet, just use Carrara! ;-)

    I think he means DAZ Studio. It is common for people that use Studio just to call it DAZ even though DAZ 3D also has Bryce, Carrara and Hexagon in addition to DAZ Studio.. I usually abbreviate it as D/S, but some prefer D|S or just Studio.

    yes, i meant a D|S file. little new to other programs in the DAZ system. all i know is studio.
    Just started mucking around in Carrara actually for this exact thing. i need to render water and slime. the only problem is that I need to learn carrara's features now haha

    this was one of the first images I ever posted here.

    if you look closely, you'll see the Drool... *made in Carrara's vertex modeller" from an extruded circle.

    If you need animated drool,.. try creating a morph or two,. or add bones and rig it
    you could also add to the effect by creating a simple particle emitter, based on the upper jaw (teeth area) and then emit a few small Drip particles from that (hidden) emitter.

    Any instructions or manual for PyCloid?

    Anyone know if the plug-in will work on a Mac? It claims to be "for Windows", but since it's a plug-in, is it not machine independent?

    (I'm thinking that maybe I can use it to create splashes and pouring water etc...)

    It won't work as it is a Python script or something.

    I tested Pycloid for a long time and I always had crashes !
    Frederic Ribble sent an email to me in which he says that he gave up this project because of the little of success met near the animators.
    When I use the scenes presets, all works well, if I change a parameter, there is an error message, and if I add an object to the scene, there is no more particules emission !
    If somebody has good performances with Pycloid, he must says to us how it goes please !
