Barefoot Dancer Tutorial Stuck

Hello.  I was doing the interactive Barefoot Dancer Tutorial, all was going well until head/neck pose.  I changed the 'twist' to -0.46 (which actually kept making -0.460 when I press enter) and the instructions never continue.  I have tried the tutorial 3 times from the beginning again and always the same non-advancing at the same place?

I am just guessing here, but I would be inclined to think that the scripting that is used to run the tutorial requires certain actions to be completed correctly before advancing to the next. By deviating from the script (literally), you halt the tutorial while it waits for the "correct" action to be completed. Someone who is more familiar with the way the tutorial works may happen by and correct me if I am wrong. (It has been known to happen smiley).

In the meantime, why don't you see what happens if you don't deviate from the prescribed actions? If the tutorial proceeds to completion, you'll have substantial proof of your own.

If you really want to create a modified version of the tutorial, you could recreate the scene from the elements used independently of the tutorial - you already have all the necessary parts, and, having completed the tutorial, you should have a good idea of how to go about it. Alternatively, once you have completed the tutorial and with the completed scene still open, you can save the entire scene and open it any time you wish and edit it as you see fit. If you merely want to change the pose of G2F as indicated prior to rendering, you should be able to do that after completing the tutorial as well.

I did not deviate from the instructions.  Where would you get such an idea and then proceed with it as if it were fact?  Your assumption is not only that i deviated from the prescribed actions, but that I did so intentionally.  That is offensive when I came here for help.

I just tried and had no issue progressing. Please post a screenshot of the stuck lesson.

It is no offensive if it is true.  The tutorial is telling you to; oepn the Pose pane, select the Neck bone and set the twist.  You are in the Pose Controls which is not the following the instructions.

Just tried the tutorial myself and ran into the same problem.  Seems the script isn't registering the value change for the Neck-Head Twist setting.

Edited to add: Seems the tutorial script isn't recognizing the selection of the Posing Pane or the Pose Control > Neck at all.

Well, for everyone's benefit, and for what it's worth, I did a little investigating on my own, and discovered a few things.

Firstly, this old PC only runs an older, pre-Iray version of DAZ Studio, and when I opened and ran the tutorial, I discovered that it was different back when Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials were first introduced. In addition to the absence of any Iray-centric bits, the whole "point the head at the camera" part were absent. So I then fired up my workstation in the next room that is running DAZ Studio 4.9.3.166 and the latest version of G2F Starter Essentials. After some initial problems trying to find out where they had buried the Barefoot Dancer Tutorial, I ran it through to the end without a hiccup (well except for the Smart Content bit where the tutorial insisted I load the environment from there). I don't use smart content, so it obviously wasn't there. So I bailed, then resumed where I left off. I hadn't bothered with all the saves it was telling me to do, so I tried it once again dutifully saving the scene each time I was prompted, to see if that made any difference. Nope. Still ran relatively cleanly to completion.

So the only explanation that I can think of why the tutorial would freeze as it did for two other users must have something to do with matching the version of the tutorial to the right version of DAZ Studio. Those using DIM shouldn't hypothetically have that issue, though, as it should offer updates when necessary. Dunno.

  • I'm having the same problem. The tutorial gets stuck when applying the neck twist. I've restarted with no difference.

I understood nothing about what SixDs said above so can someone explain what I should do to get it started again?

I have a good computer with a GTX1060 graphics card.

    Thanks.smiley

  • OK what seems to be happening is the neck twist is the last stage of the tutorial and the tutorial is simply not finishing. In the menu that stage is now ticked, which I assume means I have completed it.
