Two GTX1080ti + I7 4790

Hello!

I'm planning an PC upgrade in upcoming weeks. My Plan is just to buy new motherboard and graphic card (second 1080ti since I already have one) and my question that my CPU will "handle" these two cards? I think it dosen't really matter in daz3D since it uses only GPU during the render?

I just want to be sure that I can have two cards without overworking my CPU. Since I'm not going to use it for games anyway;

it shouldn't have much thing to do with CPU other than writing file and loading textures (?)

Something you need to care a lot more about, is the PSU, two running at full power might eat up all your powers and PSU might overload - which will lead some bad stuff I believe

  • Yes, you should be fine on PCI lanes and CPU power to receive and integrate the data.

    And mind the cooling.

    And the PSU.

  • Wich PSU is better to buy..850 or 1000W one?

  • I'd go with the 1,000W unit.

What CPU and motherboard do you have in your computer right now?

According to the tech who built mine it will produce alot more heat..

  • I have i7 4790 now and MSI B85-G43. I'll buy better MOBO with 2 PCIE 3.0

And about heat, with 1 GTX1080ti i have around 80 celcius degree while rendering.

With my 1080ti I get 67 on average

Your current motherboard has an extra slot between the GPU slots.  That's a good thing.  You should be OK just upgrading the power supply and adding the second GPU for now.

Now your core temperature is getting too high for long term render projects.  You need to investigate the cooling setup in your computer case.

I have fouder's eidition of the card, and my Motherboard has second PCIE 2.0 slot..wich won't be good for card like 1080ti, I think?

    and here's case  I have https://www.silentiumpc.com/en/pax-m70-pure-black/

I think I can just buy 2 extra 140mm fans and add them to my case.

For Iray usage PCIE 2.0 will not slow down render performance.  It may take a few extra seconds to transfer the scene to the GPU memory depending on how big and complex it is.

That's a pretty nice looking case.  How many fans are installed right now?  Also, are the fans oriented in such a way that air is flowing through the case in a linear fashion?

  • To get your temp down, you'll want to install your OEM's performance tuning app to set a more aggressive (and louder) cooling profile.

  • The question is that GTX1080ti will be able to be connected trough PCI-E 2.0?

And so far I have 3 120mm fans installed. 2 on front and 1 on back.

Yes your GTX 1080 ti will function just fine in a 2.0 slot.  For gaming you may loose a few FPS, but it will not effect render performance in Iray.

  • So, I tried to make first render with 2 cards..but it switched me to CPU mode...Any idea why? Scene was small, only with one character.

Make sure that you have the Nvidia published version of the Geforce driver installed.
The Windows update version does not work for Iray.

  • my 1051  was switching to cpu because 4.9.2 didn't wouldn't render with it...

  • Ensure both cards are selected as your rendering devices in Daz Studio's render options.

If you don't see both cards listed separately, then something's wrong and it's not being detected.

Check Device Manager to make sure there's not a problem with/from Windows. If you get an error that there are not enough free resources available for the 2nd card, you may have to disable the Audio resources of the 2nd card to free up resources. Don't disable the Display resources for it, however, even though it's not directly contributing to the display (not hooked to a monitor/TV), because then you've removed the entire card, and DS really won't see it.

Of course you have to reboot when you've done all that.

If Device Manager is fine, check the specs of your motherboard and see if that slot is sharing resources in the BIOS with something else (SATA6G port or something), and make whatever changes you have to make in the BIOS and with how things are connected to the board, such as using a different HDD port.

If it's an EVGA-branded card, fire up Precision X and see if the card is listed there. You can also tweak the fan speed to keep it cooler. I run my GPU fans at 100% during renders, and my Pascal Titan sits at 85*C. At 86*, my PC reboots.

Really gotta look into watercooling lol

Sounds like an awesome rig...I'm jealous! smiley
