As much as I love the other sci-fi shows that are out there, I think that more love needs to be shown for SDF Macross or Robotech: The Macross Saga if you had seen the series as a kid in the 1980s on U.S. Television. So to start this thread off I am posting some of the work I have been doing when I can to start off this thread.

    Nice!

Btw.  From the trailer of the newest Star Trek film, I'd say somebody in wardrobe has a fondness for Macross as well. smiley

Robotech was my first exposure to anime and I remember the series fondly. I even had the book set!

    The uniforms do look great.

It was my first anime as well (the US version).  I always remember (fondly) the shots of Gloval with the brim of his hat covering his eyes as he said something profound.  laugh

I still own all the DVDs, including the last one they did, plus all the books.  All time favourite!

You might want to take a look at Chris Schell's website for your Macross fix.

Vanishing Point has some nice Macross/Robotech Freebies, too. I've seen the show only a few years ago, but always liked the designs and the model kits which were first available during my childhood in the mid 80's in my country. The early editions of the "Battletech" tabletop boardgame made and published by FASA used the Macross's designs for their papercraft playing pieces, and metal and plastic miniatures, as well as some from Dougram and Chrusher Joe. Until (Un)Harmony Gold wrongfully claimed the desings being their intellectual property.

Some early renderers I made a few years ago: ADR-04-Mk. X Defender ("Battletech" RFL-3N Rifleman) strolling the streets of Stonemason's Urban Sprawl 2...

Here are a couple of my Macross Inspired Renders... I got started in collecting anime after Robotech started airing here when I was a kid... been collecting ever since. I even have all of the Macross Series episodes in my library... all 30 years of it! :)

Oh man those are nice!  Where did you get the Invid ships?

All the fighters in these images are my own creations... the Invid styled ships are a series of alien transforming mecha I've been working on that I've called the Solinoids, I designed them myself as I did with the Veritech styled ones based on sketches I'd done during my Macross/Robotech RPG days years ago... :)

I wouldn't dare that... (Un)Harmony Gold is still around altough their sueing finger might be a lil' bit less itching. I'd fist make sure that US courts would accept the jap. court decision from 2001, which stated that HG at no time owned the copyright of the Macross art. Just the distribution rights for the animations. He makes profit from the IP, and I wouldn't tickle the sleeping lion.

Didn't know there was a Macross fan group on FB... very cool :)

Wasn't aware of this, but there's a new Macross series that just finished called Macross Delta.

Now I just need to figure out how I can get a hold of it.  You can find scenes from it all over Youtube btw.

Macross Delta just started this spring... Episode 11 aired last Sunday... it's scheduled for at least 1 full season (24 episodes?) as far as I've read so far... :)

As for H/G, they're the reason that none of the other Macross series, toys etc are able to make it over here... they kinda really screwed things up for us fans and the legal mess over it is still ongoing... Given that they claimed ownership of something that they didn't actually own!

The IP rights rightfully belong to Studio Nue as Macross was created and released in Japan long before Robotech came here. Further muddying the issue is that H/G "bought" the distribution rights from a 3rd party that only owned distribution rights themselves not the actual IP and could therefore not legally sell the IP but only the right to redistribute...

Harmony Gold and Studio Nue have been going back and forth for years over the fact that Harmony Gold registered IP ownership in the US without actually having bought rights to the IP... It's rather sad really...

On another note here are a couple more of my fan images... :)

It has been a while since I have visited this thread myself, but here are some new renders I have done. Some to just test some ideas, but that doesn't mean I don't have some completed stuff along the way to show.

  • Does anyone know where I could find a DAZ or Poser model of a Zentradi Female Power Armor suit, also known as a Queadlunn-Rau?

I am also trying to find a costume for the Meltran pilot, if anyone has any idea where I might find that. Thanks!

    My lastest

    Robotech: Defending Macross

  • You know...

I believe the gun pod was a traditional ordinance weapon and not a laser and only Skull Squardon is allowed the skull embelishment and they are always yellow, not red.

In all seriousness, very nicely done. I just couldn't help giving you a bit of a tease. Very nice battlepod model and posing.

It almost looks like the people models were scanned from the old Matchbox figures; the colors are spot on to those. I see what looks to be a Minmay and a Miriya. I particularly like the one carrying the wounded. Nice attention to detail.

The only real criticism I have is that I'd rather see more explosion out the back of the battlepod than in the front. That gives the impact some gravitas. The exit explosion is perfect though, a little less in the front would make it seem even more impactful. Pun intended.

Your right, but I thought the laser looked cooler. wink  The skull is on all the Macross textures I have for this model.  I'd have to manually edit them out.  I debated about the front explosion, but in the end, I was covering up a problem with the battlepod model that I'm still trying to fix.  It wasn't made for Poser or Daz and my skills at modeling are limited.  I do have some help.

Wish I could find some Macross uniforms for G8.

I did this one a while back.  The SDf-1 model isn't the greatest so I did my best.

Ah, the explosion choice makes sense then.

Another option you can try is to deform the front of the model a bit. It's something I remember first seeing in the early episodes of Robotech / Macross:
Sometimes when a capital ship would get hit by one of the large lasers, there would be a warping of and around the ship. With a delay before the impact causes the major explosions. Particularly when the capital ship would take a direct head on hit that went straight through.

I always thought it was a neat idea that made perfect sense. That sort of catastrophic might take a few seconds before internal batteries and ammunitions start to ignite.

Having grown up with cartoons that only had stagnant backgrounds, things like the clouds exploding during the battles caught my attention.

As for costumes, I can't really help you there. Some of the old GIS uniforms might work. They'd need converting to G8 and retexturing, probably a bit of kitbashing. I'd also look at any Naval uniforms with an open mind. Every space anime I can think of has based their uniforms on naval uniforms. Captain Harlock is almost entirely pirate inspired uniforms.

This could pass for a dress or bridge uniform: https://www.daz3d.com/gis-for-genesis-male
    Breetai's uniform: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-gis-commander-for-genesis-8-males
and Astral for GIS (no longer in the shop it seems) could pass for a UN Spacy flight suit.

There's always artistic license. The uniforms changed with each wave of Macross shows.

  • One more to the list:

    https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-dream-high-school-uniform-for-genesis-8-and-81-females

With recoloring this can make a pretty respectable Lisa / Claudia / Bridge Bunny uniform. There are some small differences, like the tie...  BUT if you use the same uniform, across all three, just with the correct colors for each character, they would reinforce each other as being "right."

  • I do have some Macross uniforms available
