Genesis and Victoria 8 Improvements?

I am currently weighing if the switch from the Gen3 series to the Gen8 is worth it. The models themselves seem to be the same. So I guess my question is what features does Gen8 add that makes it worthwhile?

You can play with default genesis8 female alleady , with manuall transfered morph and items, and compare from genesis3F.

I see some node arrangement slightly change, may cause different about weight map defomation with bending.

and new flex morphs seems offered for default genesis8F.   and separate Eye lash with eye moisture part.  I feel some interesting about those.

But at same time,  I do not buy any new character or items about Genesis8F at current.

Most of items and morphs could be transfered (include geo grafted item) from genesis3 with some effort.  I only feel,  problem about mat correspond to character UV map  for genesis8,

G8 can not use Other character UV of genesis3.   but It can use Genesis3female default UV, and I usually prefer to use default UV map, to make my character skin.  then not cause problem for me.   If I really need to use other character mat (different UV set), I bake and transfer texture for genesis3female UV in blender, then use them for genesis8 (UV set is genesis3female)

About anatomy, I arelady get other shope product for genesi3, and it can easy trasnfer mat, from current genesis3 torso. and I could transfer anatomy for genesis8

as new geo grafted item. with keep every morphs, and additoina node.

my conclusion is, I can use genesis3 female as main as same as before, and gradually transfer my corrections to genesis8.  then see if I really prefer genesis8 rig or new flex morphs.

It is worth upgrading for sure. No figure is allways perfect, but G8 sets the bar. The best figure availeble, without a doubt.

I had the same question...and honestly I'm a bit disappointed in DAZ constantly saying in the advertisements that G8 has "extreme compatibility", and "V8 will work with your older content."

That's just not true in many cases, unless you search the forums for workarounds. Poses, morphs, and some shoes don't work without workarounds.

I think for many/most the need to easily work with older content is pretty important. Many of us really need a good reason to buy an entire new character and morphs and clothing and so on.

On the other hand, I previously dismissed D|S as just a low powered engine for content sales, but honestly I'm very impressed at how far it's come, and how amazing the G3 characters and Iray are. And to the extent that G8 improves that I think it's all good. I just not yet convinced the change is worth the investment, especially when G3 is so awesome. I'd love to be able to very quickly transfer my G3 characters (materials, morphs, poses, clothing, etc.) to the new G8, but the hassle-to-benefit ratio seems a bit high right now.

I'm curious to see exactly what others find so awesome about the 8's.

Shoes have been a problem for all Genesis generation, it is not something that can easily be Auto-Fitted.  Morphs have never been interchangeable (without complex tranfer procedures or genius level plug-ins) between generations as they are mesh specific.  The Poses are unfortunate do to the zero pose differences but not that difficult to adjust.

    From G3 to G8:

    - You can redial the morphs that come by default and you get the same character very accurately.
    - You can transfer G3 custom morphs one by one as detailed in a SickleYield tutorial on DA with close to perfect result. Don't bother with methods that transfer full characters, they are not efficient and will cause deformity in the hands and/or feet.
    - Shoes are an issue if they are heels, as it's always been between generations. I can't get why Daz doesn't come up with a tool for this, heels are an important item in a model wardrobe and V8 is launching without any. Maybe it's to drive sales?
    -  You can copy your dedicated G3 UVs to the G8 UV folder, they'll usually work quite well (can't remember the path ATM).

tl,dr: G8 IS very compatible to G3, but this compatibility is not very end-user friendly. If you want to use it you need to read some documentation, experiment and sometimes come up with your own solution. Or, you might wait for the old products to be rereleased for G8 and complain about breaking your bank (this is a mild joke, Daz and the PAs live on D|S and are supposed to make things easier earning money in the process).

I do not think, each chracter UV set of genesis3  (which clearly different vertex count for two figure) can work for genesis 8.

G8 Base female UV set,  can use mat textures which arranged for  genesis3  F base UVset without seam and gap.

It means  UV set arrangement almost same for textures.   but we can not load other character UV set (for G3female mesh)  for G8.

it is not problem where we Install those UV set file.   G8 can not  import  G3 character UV sets (Aiko7 or Vicotria 7 etc) simply because vertex count ,vertex order are different.
