Shooting a Game of Pool (smart props & poses) for Jack Tomalin's 'Deco Downtime'

Rendo has a billiards room with a pool table, smart props, and poses (some of them pretty risqué, hurrah!), and the quality of 'Deco Downtime' leaves me begging for something similar.

How about it, Mr. Tomalin?

And if you feel like providing an 8-ball set (as they're called in Canada; don't know about elsewhere) rather than snooker balls, that would be much appreciated too. Where I come from, only wimps play snooker. Real men and women play 8-ball *

* A joke in case anyone wonders, or cares. wink

  • What, pray tell, is the exact difference between them? I haven't played in years, and even then wasn't aware of this.

Neither have I, but where I hail from, pool-hall billiards comes in two main varieties: 8-ball (numbered balls, solid and striped) and snooker (cue ball, pink, green, black, and I-forget-which-color balls, the racked balls being red, the rest placed in marked positions).

Snooker by far is the slower game, since only the red balls stay down when they're sunk. The other colored balls are re-spotted, and score is kept on a scoreboard, with a green worth, uh, uh...God, it's been so long...

Anyway, with 8-ball, the balls keep their own score and the game moves faster. After the first ball is sunk you're either high or low, and of course the 8-ball must be the last one down.

Of course the variations are endless--Cutthroat, 7-up, etc. etc. As for old-fashioned 3-ball carom billiards played on tables without any pockets, I've never seen it played.

  • Okay, I've always played the basic 8-ball and had only heard references to snooker, but I can see where having both texture options would be nice.

In snooker, after potting a red you pot a colour, which is then replaced on the  table at its default position (assuming that isn't obscured by another ball) or at the next point. Once all the reds are potted the colours are then potted in order from low to high. The maximum score, for potting all, is 148 as I recall.

"For those of you watching in black and white, the pink is behind the green."

(Yes, a BBC commentator actually said that, in the Elder Days when colour TV sets were uncommon and uncheap.)

  • I just added this to the Freebie forum, but thought I would post it here in this thread, too.  Here's is an 8-ball and snooker material preset for the Billiard Balls in the Deco Downtime set.  There is a setup for Snooker as there are more balls on the table than 8-ball. I also included two poses, one for G8F and G3M and their corresponding cue sticks.  I am going to try to do a few more poses at another time.  So, I hope you can use this set. :)  It is available on my ShareCG page here... http://sharecg.com/v/88874/gallery/21/DAZ-Studio/8-Ball-Snooker-and-Pose-Add-on-Set  Let me know if there are any problems with the download, or if there is anything else in particular you could use for the set. :)
