Can anyone recommend some good photorealistic hair for female figures? All I have at the moment is Sally Mae, Aldora and Hampton and I'm not really that happy with any of them.

Thanks

    That is a hard one to answer as we all see realism differently and as we all have different tastes so I find it hard to recommend any product BUT I find that these ones are fairly good for me and I am fussy. :)

    Is this for the Genesis figure? I have looked at the promos for Hampton hair in the store, and it looks realistic to me.

    Have a look through the store for 'Genesis Hair', and see if there is anything that suits you better, realism is often in the eye of the beholder, and the finished result will depend GREATLY on your lighting and choice of pose.

    What problems are you having exactly?

    Thanks both. Maybe it's not the hair then, but my ineptitude.

    This is Hampton hair lit with UE2 and a couple of specular only spots

    It just looks a bit fake to me.

    I am a hair freak, I have so many hair products it is unbelievable, but do find myself buying more by certain vendors than others. Neftis is one PA I have many products from and Valea is another.

    Not from me I am afraid, as #A) I don't have that hair product and #B) I don't use DS

    Yeah I don't think I have anything to offer to make it look better sorry. I haven't liked many hair products to be honest for sometime so I am looking forward to getting my hands on one, or both Hair Plug-ins for Daz Studio so I can avoid the hit and miss approach to buying quality hair products that have good hair textures with no specular highlights, good bump maps and even better good displacement maps too. Good movements morphs is also essential for me as I don't like simple static poses generally and so far avoided anything too extreme when it came to hair. I am picky though. :)

    It might be worth your time to grab Look At My Hair, which is a plugin for Daz Studio which allows you to create your own hairstyles. They're rendered using RiCurves, so the results can be very realistic. With the new hair shader due out, it's looking better than ever. It's at the top of my wishlist at the moment.

    Just in the interests of fairness, you should also look at the new Garibaldi plugin which is also on sale:

    I think you biggest problem iwht the hair you have is that it is not looking how hair looks naturally on the head, it is not following the conturs properly.

    Think how hair normally looks.

    THis is obviously a different hairstyle, but it lays against the head, not as yours is

    Can you pose hair though? I thought it just got plonked on the head?

    Most hair, especially longer styles, will include a number of morphs for styling and posing the hair. Some hair models will have additional bones to help pose the hair.

    yeah really good hair products have a number of posing/movement morphs. Some just have simple wind movement morphs and some have both, some have a lot some have very few.

    For photorealistic hair in DAZ Studio, your best bet might be to go with Look At My Hair or Garibaldi...I haven't used either yet, but I just got LAMH and am excited to try it out. And both represent a new, developing technology that will only improve over time...

    Aside from these, my favorites so far, for women, are Gia Hair by AprilYSH and Gregoria Hair by 3Dream and Mairy. But there are plenty of other great ones, by these and other vendors.

    I've gotten almost all my hair at DAZ, but some other stores have some excellent hair models, too, especially Sonia Hair (I can vouch for this one) and others by StudioArtVartanian at Renderosity, and Desir Hair by AlfaseeD at RuntimeDNA (I don't own this one, but it looks great).

    I'll also take the opportunity to plug my hair tutorial (linked in my sig), which offers suggestions on maximizing realism among other things.

    For Daz Studio 4.5+ install the _trx version.
    For Poser install the _dpc version.
    For Mac use the .zip files.
    For PC use the .exe files.

    MetaData installers are additional files used to make your installed content appear in the Smart Content pane in Daz Studio. Install if you're using Daz 4.x but ignore if using Poser.

    Hope this helps.

    It does indeed help! Thank you very much.

    But how is anyone supposed to know that? It's no where on the product page!

    DPC = Downloadable Poser Content
    TRX = Triax Weight-mapping

    I suppose you get used to the acronyms after a while. The EXE versus ZIP is fairly obvious since Mac doesn't natively support EXE files. It's probably one of the reasons they introduced the Daz Install Manager, so there would be less confusion.
