Yes, DAZ Studio is free - the company provides the program free, bur expects to make money selling content like props and sets and the like. DAZ is just setting up an account so you have it if you choose to buy additional content later. I've had D/S 4.5 for months, and have never been charged for it.

jerriecan, is the 64-bit version free, or just the 32-bit version? I just downloaded and installed the 64-bit, and then used the install manager to download and install my content, but none of my content seems to be there in Daz when I open it -- just boxes with exclamation points or the like. If I click on one, it says "file does not exist" among other things.

When you install the application it puts a shortcut on the desktop and one in the Start menu under All Programs > DAZ 3D > DAZ Studio 4

Did you download the DAZ Install Manager? If so, that's not actually the DAZ program itself - the Install Manager manages the content you buy from the DAZ store.

This is the link to the program itself in the store

DAZ Studio, both 32-bit and 64-bit, are free. There is no longer a "professional version" that cost extra. The free version is the professional version. The free version also includes that basic Genesis male, female and child 3D models. There is other free content available in the DAZ store, and at other sites. There now is quite a bit of free content for Gensis, but more free content is for earlier V4/M4 figures (some V4/M4 content will work with Genesis). V4 and M4 are still available in the DAZ store, but they are not free. A Genesis based V5/M5 figure set is also available, but not free. You can certainly do nice renders just using free content.

I don't think there is any guarantee that DAZ Studio will always remain free. DAZ could always start charging again. Perhaps a free version and a professional version the cost money.

I downloaded the free version last year, did some renders using only free content. Now DAZ has a lot of my money from buying content.

DAZ Studio's weak area in documentation. Don't be afraid to ask questions here. There are lots of people that will try to help you figure things one.

The DIM can not Download and Install the Main Daz Studio Program. DIM is only for content. If you downloaded the Main Daz Studio File from your My Account> My Available Downloads you might need to re-download it. It sounds like you did not get a full download.

Note: If your using the DIM for downloading your Content you will need to Change the Directory paths in the DS 4.5 pref's from this

C:\Users\Your name\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Library to the new folder that DIM creates at default settings. That is this

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library.

    I hope this helps.

    The process is fairly simple.

    1) Download the correct version of Daz Studio 4.5 from your downloads list. You will need to download it from your "downloadable products" in your acccount. The version will depend if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit machine, and whether it's a Mac or a PC.

    2) Run the installer. Using the defaults, this will create your content folder in "%userprofile%\My Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Library" which is where you'll later find all the installed goodies like Genesis figures, props and so on.

    3) Either use the Daz Installation Manager (DIM) to download and install your content or manually download it from your "downloadable products" and run the installers. Remember to put them into your content folder as mentioned in step 2.

    4) Run Daz Studio by double clicking the desktop icon, or finding it in the start menu.

    5) Find your serial code in your account details under "My serial codes" and enter it by clicking on the Help menu in Daz Studio and choosing "Register Daz Studio"

    6) Insert your figures and props from the smart content pane and enjoy.

It really is a pretty basic procedure, so if you're having troubles it would probably help more if you gave us the EXACT steps you took to load the program and what error messages, if any, were given.

DAZ Studio itself must be downloaded manually, because the DAZ Install Manager will not do it for you. Any content can either be downloaded and installed with the Install Manager, or you can do it without the Install Manager: just go to My Account, then click My Downloadable Products.

The DAZ Install Manager is optional...it's not necessary to use it at all. Using it might save you a lot of time in the long run, though.

Yes but this is an old thread   2013             try   this thread  https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/353851/daz-studio-4-12-pro-general-release/p1

Just in case: version numbers are not decimal numbers, 4.12 means "major version 4, minor version 12". So it's newer than 4.5.

You can get the SDK version of daz studio 4.5.   which all the daz studio 4 software are based on.  SDK Stand for "Software DevelopementKit"  https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4-5-sdk

it does not have deforce or some other features as the new version . But it does not use all you GPU resorces in a single render either.   Daz Studio 4/5 SDK  was made for developing plugins and resources for the daz studio 4.+ versions & its a great Studio versions for testing and working out bugs with product development away from all the bells and whiltes that Daz Public build offers.
