Arachnid Class Transport [Commercial]

RaneRane Posts: 146

Given the popularity of the Arachnid class of warships, the UEF and various other shipwrights have developed another in the long prestigious line of Arachnid class vessels.  We proudly present to you the Arachnid transport.  Featuring a more flexible modularity than some of the other clunkier warhorses, the Transport is more than capable of fulfilling everyone's needs!  From barely armed racing yahts/transports to the more heavily armed mercenary gunships, the newest in the Arachnid Line will meet your every need.

Featuring larger engines, increased cargo capacity and more, this model is more than just a simple upgrade from the old, tis an entirely new ship.  With an increased modularity, this vessel has more flexibility in the range of missions it can undertake.  Expect to see this ship flying the battlefields and cargo lanes near you soon!

Additional set pieces of the Cargo bay and the bridge are also included with additional options for ease of camera placement.  The walls and ceilings are togglable to allow for clear lines of sight.  Note:  These are not meant for external camera shots.

Also included at no extra charge are the various munitions this product is capable of using.  For your pleasure, we have main cannon shells, both whole and with projectile and casing separated, two types of missiles for your explosive needs and for those extra hard targets, a rail gun bolt with anti-matter charge.  Also included for those visual effects, spotlight beams and smart-propped turret projectiles.

    Looking forward to it.

Rane, I love this ship you built and the new version. I use it as one of my wallpapers and across most of my book covers. Is there any chance of some different paint schemes down the road or bare metal versions?

    Please keep releasing more...

Are there any plans to auto-update the original with Iray materials?

@ Baronekum:  There are indeed plans to make additional paint schemes for this version, yes indeed.  If you have any requests for a skin design for your book, let me know via PM and I can make it for you.  (Whether or not you decide to allow any designs you request to be included in a future pack is not dependant upon my making it for you.)  Also, may I see what you've done?  I enjoy seeing what people make with my products.

@ Xenomorphine:  There aren't any plans to auto-update the original, sadly.  However, that does not mean that it won't happen.  If enough people are interested, then I'll release an updated Iray set.  Who knows, I may even just update the original textures to 4k while I do it to bring it up to par with my Transport.

    I'm in mixed-feelings mode.

On the one hand, this is incredible news. As someone why has damn-near made your design a character in my graphic comic, I'm ultra excited.

    https://issuu.com/producersedge/docs/the_destruction_of_redder_coltrane

As someone looking for more brilliance, I'm waiting.

I'd love a totally new design that fits in line with this imagined universe.

Daz has so few starships....I figured someone would have gone full-modular by now.

I don't mean nurbs or greebles.

So when you said modular, I thought we were going to get THIS SHIP in pieces and play around with the parts.

    THAT'S THE PRODUCT TO MAKE.

2 engines? Why not 4? Bulky back, why not bulky front? Small wings, why not big swept wings?

Shark decal, why not shark fins or shark tail like a gunship?

Why not landing wheels or landing skiffs?

Why not have the detachable cargo-bay be a separate shuttle for planetary descents and exploration?

I'd like to see MORE PARTS.

Another crew compartment shape....different engines....some more square, like the front of the ship....

some more rounded...some split, with meat in the middle....

Some running lights or emissive panels.....

I could go on forever and this could be a series of releases that go on forever.

I think you have more customer $upport than you'd know what to do with.

Share some texture maps (or whatever assets you guys would need to) with antfarm and Dzfire and see what add-ons they make for your set.

Get Zev0 (the pose-master-guy) to make some about-the-cabin poses...

    Oh, the dream is real!

AXVP, you make excelent points.  In fact, pm me a list of things you'd like to see in a fully modular warship of my styling, and I'll see what I can do about making it.  (I had actually fully intended to make this one fully modular, but it just didn't turn out to work right.)

Expected release timeframe? (This is a must-have for me laugh)

I have no expected release timeframe as of yet.  However, I am guessing it'll be a week from now or some time around there.

    Rane,

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Arachnid has been my very favorite ship for my covers (I changed the description in the books to fit your model!) and I'm so excited for this I'm promptly breaking my vow not to buy anything else in July. LOL. I second the requrest for more vessels, ideally in this theme, but maybe different shapes or purposes. The one kind of item DAZ doensn't have enough of is good ships! You made my week with this!

Nelm, I am glad I made your week!  May I ask for an example of your book covers?

Picked this up yesterday. Very nice and detailed ship. Tons of moving parts and options. That said, I'm on board for some different texture sets for the Arachnid. Something without all the words/character images on it. Heavy on the dark/metallic looks. I am also looking forward to other ships in this series.

  • RaneRane Posts: 146

Additional texture sets are indeed in the works, as well as versions without the words on it.

Rane--I replied once, but I don't know if it sent or not, so I'm trying again. Plus I couldn't remember what the original post was, so that message may not make sense. ;-)

The Incursion cover below is using a slightly modified Arachnid (I put an Antares in there, because for scale reasons, I didn't want the bridge area to show). And I used it (also with something else put into it because she requested a hodgepodge vessel) for a friend's cover, but that cover's not finshed yet (I don't do her covers, just ships for them). I have shown your Arachnid unmodified in blog posts about the series, though--I didn't know how to do lighting super well yet, so it's not a great shot, but they are wondefully threatening, just perfect for my alien empire. http://www.nemontgomery.com/history-in-science-fiction-why-have-an-empire/ is the post, if you're curious.

I haven't shown what I'm calling a carrier on a cover yet, but that one will be a bigger version of Arachnid (in the books, it's three of the class on the Incursion cover, linked together, so they can use one stardrive, then separate for battle). I think I'm going to put a carrier on Book 4--that's when the first real showdown battle happens, so it would be perfect!

I'm super excited to play with your new one--I haven't gotten to yet, because life interfered, but I bought it the moment I posted that comment. And Incursion's not out yet, so I may redo that part of the cover, using your new one.

I hope that's what you were looking for.

    Happy Friday

    Nicole

I would honestly say put the three back to back in a triangle formation.  The magnetic locks should come in to play here quite well.  Back to back is a good defensive pattern as well when doing orbital strikes.  Just as an FYI.

Rane--I did this today...not a cover (yet) ;-), using the new one. I hadn't realized the new vessel was Iray only and don't usually do Iray (I use a Mac), so this is my first Iray render. I used ThePhilosopher's cool new set, Epic Skydomes - Ocean Mountain Sunset HDRI. Thought you might like to see it...

    Hi Rane,

My apologies for the delay, I've been caught up with school holidays here and keeping the lil one busy during the day.

Here are a couple of covers with your models. The first one (red) is for a current and ongoing series, the next one (blue) is for a series coming in the near future. I've also used the Arachnid as background filler several times in one of the RPG's I do artwork for (Clement Sector for Cepheus Engine / Traveller).

I had written up a ship almost like this years ago and when it came time to finding a model to use on the covers, there was a major lack available on model sites or as photostock. When your first Arachnid model came available, it was an instabuy, just like the transport. Please keep up the great work & releases when you can.

Great to hear extra texture sets are coming, instabuy for me! My only requests if they are feasible would be a version without camouflage, and then an option of replacing the green on the forward superstructure with red,  or blue or plain metal.

    Brad

Oh, this is all so cool!  I adore seeing what people make.  Though, when you update that one image with the transport, the turrets do move.  XD. Also, I'm glad to see you hiding the giant rotaries in the Freighter images.

Also, I'm not sure if this is allowed in this thread, but if anyone has any specific texture design requests they are wanting to see, please by all means, let me know.

@Rane--I don't know if you have plans to make a set for 3delight, but I use a Mac so Iray is not fun (at least if I want to see the images in under 24 hours, sigh). The only other request I might make is a set (for either render engine) without any writing on it--I'm not using anything Earth-based so any close ups that show any Earth-based languages or symbols require postwork...

@fastbike1, I have the HDRI space, which haven't played with yet, but I'm trying not to buy many Iray-only items because I use a Mac and they take *forever* to render, sigh. I cave and buy a few though. ;-) And thank you!

I second the request for a 3DL-based material option.
