Moderators or to whom it may concern, please pass along that the menus when you over over the links at the top are gone again! They disappeared yesterday and are still not there today :( They were how I travel between forums and without those quick links I won't be traveling anywhere much on dialup with this whole store setup now days :(
Please make a request to add it back in for us! Yes, I know about the whole support ticket thing but I can't waste 20 mintues trying to load the dumb page to post a ticket that will never be answered anyway when I can take 5 minutes to load the New Topic page and post one here instead :(

Do you mean the drop down menus at the very top, when you hover over Shop - Explore - Products etc etc?
They work for me, and I haven't noticed them not working at any point. Maybe someone else has your problem.
Have you Tried a different Browser? If not have you Cleaned your Caches? The Site went down and if you were logged in it could still be in your caches with the Errors.
That is a very likely/common occurrence...
I already tried a forced refresh of the page and after that did nothing I did clear the cache and it did not work. I can't load Daz in another browser.... it just times out since the "upgrade". I can only (barely) manage to load it in Firefox. It worked perfectly fine 2 days ago, then yesterday it wasn't.
By the way, it's ONLY the forums not bring up the menu. It does it in the store still, just not from the forum pages.
That's rather odd behavior, has your FF had an update? Say two days ago. If not I'm out of ideas.
No, I'm using version 13.01 still... I have a mostly stable version and don't see the need to update. Everytime I have updated with Firefox in the past it becomes unstable to the point where it crashes constantly. Not risking my nice stable version -_- LoL As for anything else, all I've been doing for the last 3-4+ months is downloading from Daz -_- Haven't had time to do any kind of program or computer updates... *kicks stupid dialup*
Well, if you are having stability problems with more recent versions of FF, then there's more likely something else wrong...either with an add-on or your OS. One of the major reasons to update...about a bazillion security fixes since the version you are running, some of which are pretty major. Another reason...some sites are actually preventing older versions of browsers from 'full access'. This means not all the features of a site will work.
If you can't connect at all with other browsers, then there's a good chance that you have a network/ISP related problem, or are being blocked by security software (firewall, AV, etc)..
If all of those problems are coupled with generally poor system performance, you could be infected or have a dying hard drive.
Actually, the stability issues go all the way back to the very first update after Version 3. I never had trouble until after Version 3 came out and then after that first security update I had nothing but problems. Since then I had at least 2 issues where I had to reinstall Windows so I had a perfectly clean install of the OS, a new install for Firefox and there were the exact same stability problems. The only add-on I've had has been adBlock, and then later NoScript. I don't use other add-ons and the one I had had while Firefox was a stable version.
I also know the reasons to upgrade, I'm no beginner at computers. I've been using them more than 20 years and built this one personally on my own. I also have been a webmaster for more than 15 years and know about issues with old browsers, etc. However, based on past issues, I have a perfectly stable version right now that supports 100% of the sites I visit daily so there's no need to me to upgrade and risk problems with the browser again until I absolutely have to.
The issues with other browsers, by the way, is the fact that I am on dialup. I have Chrome as well and all Daz does is time out in that browser because it bypasses a program I have to help boost my dialup connection. Without my accelerator program to help me, 90% of the pages online time out due to my 24k connection speed. It has absolutely nothing to do with security software or network problems, just the fact that I'm on dialup and the "upgrade" Daz did is not dialup friendly at all. The only reason I can still access Daz through Firefox is that Firefox works with my accelerator program.
The hard drive is not dying either. I have absolutely no system performance issues and my main HD is brand new and running fine. My only lack of system performance comes from the fact I'm using a 32bit OS instead of 64bit and only have a duel core system instead of the fancy new CPUs that have come out since I bought mine.
Well...yeah, I'd classify that as a 'network/connectivity' problem. At 24K, it's surprising you get anything online, these days.
Since most sites, especially those like DAZ that run from the 'cloud', are cached multiple times, 'accelerator' type programs aren't worth as much as they used to be, because all they are doing is adding another layer of caching...which, when a scripting problem/style sheet problem occurs, adds one more layer that needs to be purged, before things return to 'normal'.
Living in the wilds of WV, I'm all too familiar with poor connectivity...until we signed up with a local wireless broadband provider. Yes, it's low compared to some, but it is good enough to stream Netflix (around 3 mb)...and since it also provides VOIP phone service is cheaper than separate ISP and phone bills.
It's not actually a problem, it's what I'm supposed to connect at. I'm in a very rural area with no high speed available and the phone lines are some words I'm not allowed to say on this site, but they only support a 24k connection and they won't do anything to change that or setup high speed access for me (even though they set it up for 10 minutes down the road, but they won't continue it up the rest of the hill here for the people that live at the top of the mountain).
The accelerator program isn't like most of what is available. I've looked into some of the others and they are nothing at all like what I have. It doesn't cache, it runs off a proxy and compresses most file types as it loads, but it has no cache of it's own, it runs off whatever the browser has setup, but it can't be used with some browsers, like Chrome for some reason. It means graphics quality is greatly decreased, but it's something I'm willing to live with since it nearly doubles loading times and allows me to load a lot of web pages that normally wouldn't load otherwise and would give me time out errors -_- This particular program is offered only through the ISP I go through and they don't offer it unless you go through their dialup service.
Lucky you.... We don't get anything here. No high speed, no wireless, no cell signals... not enough decent tv (a whole 1 whopping channel). Apparently satellite isn't even an option because our view of the south sky is blocked by a forest of 50+ foot trees :(
mjc: sorry about my last post, by the way, if it sounded rude or whatever. My day has been horrible and keeps getting worse and worse. I have a headache that won't go away, a 6yr old nephew upstairs jumping and stomping as loud as he can and the sound through the floor is absolutely horrible. I'm so irritated with Daz to top it all off. They won't answer my support tickets for several problems I'm having (not the issue with the menus or other site design problems LoL) and I'm just getting so sick of everything happening at once :(
Migraines....kids...and finicky websites...not a good combo.
The caching is on the proxy, to some degree. I thought that Chrome would support that compression scheme...but oh well.
And yeah, getting stuck in an area where the telco just doesn't give a d... :shut:
If you can get 'extra' features, like caller ID and call waiting on your line you should be able to get a 56K connection...still not broadband or anything, but better. If you can't, then they aren't lying to you...otherwise someone's lying like a rug.
Yeah.... I hate weekends. I can't wait until he goes back to school in the morning. The weekend will come again too fast though and then I won't get to sleep in and have to put up with the noise all day and night again :( At least those evil holiday weekends are over for now (I forget if they get Easter Monday off).
The issue with Chrome is something with the source code for the browser. The programmers haven't been able to get it to work correctly with Chrome and one other.... Safari, maybe? Or it might be Opera, one of those two. It works with Firefox though. It works with IE to an extent but IE gives me an awful amount of problems and I never use it. It's not a good browser for dialup LoL
We were told we can't get Caller ID. We do have Call Waiting though. The tech guy from the local phone company told us about the phone lines at one time when I asked about the connection speeds. He was out checking a problem we were having and I brought it up and that's what he told me.... The lines up here only support a 24k connection speed :( We never had any reason to doubt him, since we literally can't connect any faster than 24k at all. We've been through several different ISPs and every one of them will only connect at 24k. Our phone service is pretty nasty too though. The reception is just awful and we constantly have static issues. Of course the lines are underground too and we are in WA so we get tons of rain most of the year and normally a lot of snow in the winter which creates more problems when the liquids soak into the ground. If I ever can get out of this house, one of the first things I plan on checking for is high speed internet access LoL I hate dialup!
CallerID is the most accurate 'predictor'...and if you can't get it they are telling the truth. And if it was a linesman who told you then it was even more likely to be true (customer service are the ones you need to watch out for...). If the lines are 'noisy'...there is one fix, but most telcos won't do it...because it requires going above the minimum standards, beef up the grounding.
Although, around here, you still get some really interesting responses...from the customer service rep for the cable company..."You want cable what?"
She's talking about the 'home/forum home/general/commons/topic' above. And you're all off on telling her her browser isn't working. Have you tried it?
No menus show for me either.
But, I don't actually remember them showing. I usually just use the backbutton. But the point is they're not showing for her and they're not showing for me.
I'm wrong, nevermind. I didn't think there were menus there but she was talking about forum navigation. I guess she meant forums UNDER the community menu. Sorry.
I'm sure ours won't do a single thing to help us out. We called last week to get an extra service we had been using for quite awhile removed (it was an add-on that we had to request be enabled to begin with). We got told that even though it's our account with our names on it, we don't have the right to make changes to our account like that. After a huge fight with them over that, they then wanted a social security # to "make the account more secure" which we would not give them. They removed the service and ignored the SSN bit after we started making threats to just not pay for that portion of the bill anymore if they wouldn't take it off like we requested and they finally did give in... (Just FYI to anybody curious, this is CenturyLink.... I'd personally stay away from them unless you have no other options to go through).
Still no menus, by the way :(
Yes, those menus. On the forums they always worked up until a few days ago :( Through the Community menu is how I was navigating the forum more easily, but I don't have a menu there anymore. I thought they all had menus... I know Shop, Community and Help did at least. I never use the others so I forget about those.
They work on the store pages, but they don't work on the forums anymore for me :(
They are controlled by a couple of scripts and a stylesheet.
It's kind of weird that the scripts are working on the store pages, but not the forum.
But they do get loaded separately, so it is possible that the scripts aren't loading for the forums. If the stylesheet wasn't loading there would be a lot more messed up than just those navigation menus.
Any idea of the script names? I can look in the source code this evening when I sign back on. I checked adBlock really quick but it's not blocking any scripts on the forum page, which couldn't be the case anyway because I haven't told it to go blocking anything on the site :P NoScript isn't showing anything blocked either.
Just an update.... today, magically, without any updates to the browser (or plugins), no clearing the cache and no other part on my end what so ever, the drop down links are working again on the forum pages and not just in the store again...
