How do I prevent icon files from being made in the render library?

Is there a way I can stop those icon files from generating for each render I do and cluttering up my render library folder? It's such a pain to delete them every time.

If you save the renders in another directory, then the icons will not be generated.

Strange...I tried making a new blank folder, copied my old renders over (but not the icons) and the next time I start D|S it automatically populates the folder with an icon for each image.

    What did I miss?

    Thanks.

Don't COPY, but MOVE things out of the default render folder. It should be totally empty.

Okay, I must be a real idiot. I emptied the Render Library folder. Completely.  Moved all my renders (no icons) to a new folder. Started D|S. Automatically the new folder gets populated with icons.

What did I do this time?

    Thanks.

Do you have the Render Library in your settings (I tried to find it, but have no idea where to set it, LOL) set to the new directory that you created? Don't set it to that. Leave it on the empty old directory. When saving the renders, don't use the default render directory, but specify your new one.

Ahhh, okay. Now I officially have a headache smiley

So in Render Settings there's "Image Path" and that's set to my new directory. But I guess that needs to be the old unused Render Library. So when I render I have to manually set the path to the new directory?

Image Path can be one of two things. Click on the left-hand icon to change. It can either be the Render Library, OR it can be a directory that you specify. (Which you can actually change with every render.) Specify a directory there, and make sure it is not the same directory as your Render Library. And leave Render Library empty.

DS should remember the last used folder.

Geez, I just can't get this right...

Render Settings/Image Path os set to the new folder (Documents/DAZ3D/Studio/DAZ Renders). This folder has a bunch of renders but no icons.

Render Library (previous render library at Documents/DAZ3D/Studio/Render Library) is empty.

Start D|S, and as it's starting it populates DAZ Renders folder with icons.

Maybe I have the Render Directory Manager set up wrong. There's Current Directories and New Gallery. I have New Gallery de-selected, and entered the new render image folder under the Current Directories/Base Paths

I think this may be the cause of this. Don't have that folder listed anywhere, other than the actual render settings.

So nothing whatsoever listed under Render Settings/Image Path?

Or do you mean the window with the rendered image when you actually render?

The directory where you save your renders should not be listed in your Render Directory Manager at all.

In my Render folder, this "feature" created over 6000 icons, which was not cool. I defined my Render Library as a subdirectory of my main Render folder. The name of the subdirectory is "DoNotUse". laugh

Have it set to the 'folder' icon not the 'library' icon.

I found out using 'hidden' as file attribute for these nasty *_icon files really helps. So far. Maybe, they are coming back devil Evil files always come back, you know . . .

If you don't want thimbnails don't use the Render Library, save your renders to another folder (click the icon next to the Render Library name under the render window, then chnage it to use folders instead of the library and browse to a new location). Unfortunately it isn't possible to have no render library folder, but as long as it has no images in it it won't generate thumbnails. Of course that will also block the features the thumbnails are used for.
