The Facility question

Hi!

Bought the Facility the other day http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/the-facility and it seems like it doesn't come with any DAZ materials, or am I missing something (still having problems with the install manager)

The poser materials which are there doesn't really look good in DAZ 4.5 especially not on closeups. Okay I can tweak them but first I naturally want to know if there actually are no daz materals.

Judging by the product information, I think it's exclusively Poser materials that are included. Shouldn't be too difficult to create your own presets though, then you can apply them whenever you load the facility.

I don't have it, but as the product notes (the Additonal Information tab) says it includes a Poser Core installer. That, to me, implies it is a product mainly aimed at Poser. Not sure what else I'd expect to see, probably a reference to a StudioCF install file, to imply full support for DAZ Studio. Likewise, under What's Included & Features there is no reference to Studio materials.

Having said that all bar two of the product demo images are from DAZ Studio, though no suggestion as to what was done with materials or lighting on those.

    Hi Herakleia

The Facility is one of my products and does not come with Daz material I'm afraid, sorry. I'm hoping to include Daz materials in all future products.

And just on SimonJMs point about the Promo Images, the scene was rendered directly from the Poser file with no tweeks on the materials. The lighting is just a standard Uberlight set up with some post work in gimp. It would, I think, be a good idea for me to include a basic lighting discription for customers, or better still, a few lighting presets. Will do in the future!!

A lot of settings are lost when Studio loads this prop. None of the spec maps are loaded, for example. I started on trying to set it up for Studio, but there's just so many surfaces to fix I gave up.

I always load the props into poser and save the file out so I can import it into DAZ, that way the poser settings are kept. If you don't have Poser I can upload the poser file to dropbox for you so you can do it that way. Let me know.

I don't own Poser, and I suspect a lot of folks here at DAZ don't, either. Something that better retains the Poser settings would be a plus.

Thanks for the feedback cwichura. It's impossible to know what people think of a product unless they post feedback in the forum and I take note of any I get. I'm always trying to improve on products so, honestly, thanks.

I'm going to upload the Poser file for you. Just import it into DAZ. My connection isn't great but I'll let you know when it's up.

No Poser file loads spec maps in Studio, afaik. Bump maps get loaded, you just have to set the bump strength.

If you use uber light there is no spec so you don't have to worry about that (unless you add other lights with specularity yourself). It may be why the promos rendered in Studio look so good even though they are Poser materials.

I'm going thru the Materials in Daz now anyway. It's a good exercise for me....will take a while though:-)...But the customer is ALWAYS right.

I spent some time this morning looking through a bunch of mc6 files...

I think one of the problems is while many of the features available in Poser are also available in DS (especially with UberSurface), Poser uses different names for them, so even if DS could load them, there is no where to load them to, because there is no spot to load it to.

oh i wish i'd seen this the time The Facility was included in MM - would have snapped it up in a heartbeat after reading DigiVault's brilliant customer service. :D

I did however grab the Destroyed City which I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! I was astonished at how many material zones were in the surfaces tab - it makes it AWESOME to use wiht some DS building shaders like Pimp My Prop. I think I would rather a prop have a zillion material zones, rather than just a few like some other props/sets I've bought.
