I used a photo of my kitty Lynx to Zproject the texture on the Millenium cat mesh, modified in Gimp a bit with the clone brush to  make an all over fur image so projecting was easier

free to use and redistribute

Your Lynx is a beautiful kitty 

Is there a tutorial avaliable somehwere on how to do this? It'll be ten years next year since we lost our beautiful boy. I'd love to do something for him.

I used projection painting in Zbrush, I prepare the background photo image in Gimp by cloning bits of fur over the bits that are not cat and pasting in extra features I want to project on the mesh in the corners.

 

the dog was basically an image of a dog off morguefile that I cloned the fur all over to both project and use on a brush.

It is not permissible to modify the base maps, assuming you meant those that came with the model, and distribute the result.

unrestricted so can do whatever you wish. can share the mesh too if you want to sell wraps in secondlife
