Can't get textures to work - not understanding the process fully (now got it to work kind of!)

I am struggling to get the textures to show up correctly on Genesis via FaceGen.  Following the steps coming to UV set part, textures look as shown on attached image.

I am not understanding the 'bind surfaces to images' as describe below in step 3.

Quoted from FaceGen exported page:

To apply your new color maps:

 1. Select Surfaces -> Editor -> Genesis -> Surfaces.
 2. Set 'UV Set' to 'Genesis Male' or 'Genesis Female'
 3. Bind surfaces to images by selecting then clicking on the image icon in
'Diffuse Color' and choosing 'browse', then setting 'Glossiness' slider to 0:
Bind the following surfaces to the respective image:
    1_* (Lip, Nostril, SkinFace) : tex_face.jpg
    2_* : tex_torso.jpg
    3_* : tex_limbs.jpg
    5_* : tex_eyes.jpg

The morph part kind of work but the textures are the problem.

Any help are most appreciated.  It's the 1st time I am using the surfaces in DS and this is why I am absolutely clueless! blush

It's really simple.  Click and open up "Genesis" in your Surfaces tab.  You should see a list of skin surfaces (1_SkinFace, etc...).  Open up 1_SkinFace, and change the "Diffuse Color" texmap to your FaceGen texmap.  FaceGen saved all of your textures under the "My DAZ 3D Library" folder, so browse to this folder to find them.

I got the idea but results on face are strange looking, i.e. eyes and pink area under nose part.  Suppose to be a ventriloquest doll face.

Do you think it will work if I go to the saved skinface image in the folder where FaceGen has saved it and 'paint' out the eyes and other parts not working well? I have only added the skinface file after browsing to Genesis.

Perhaps you should try FaceGen with a typical human face first to understand the mechanics better.

Thank you for the suggestion.   I have some more realistic faces I want to try out.  I have tried out the 'painting' out of some areas but more painting out needs to be done as the mouth part and some nose parts. The extra eyes had been removed.  Actually this is the 1st time I am doing anything like this to work on a texture map. surprise

That looks good.  Painting on the texture is ok as long as you don't touch the seam edges.

@Ryzan - once again thank you for your kind help which is much appreciated! smiley

I have played a bit more with the settings and browsing to the textures folder of FaceGen, painting here and there.  Now that I have discovered this process I am definitely going to play more therewith. Just incredible way to do your own mats!

The image of puppet was used as facial reference via FaceGen.  I have tried some other ventriloquest faces too but they do not work at all in FaceGen after pointer placements. Either they are too big in size or the features are not 'human' enough.
