Over the years, March Madness has become March So-So. The first MM sale didn't have coupons or chain sales. One or two items were on sale each day for a very low price. Most were in the 2 to 3 dollar range. I don't remember off hand but there may even have been a make up day at the very end as well. It was a fun sale and you were able to pick up some decent products for some very low prices.
Like last year's PC anniversary sale, this one is nothing to get excited about.
Last year i spent more because of the chain sale and the buy it all bonus. I also grabbed a bunch of PA stuff i had wanted.
This year I'm buying something like every other day and only plan on getting a few PA items. Most of the money I would have spent on PA items got spent on getting those items when they were on sale at earlier sales that happened this year.
I'm also trying to not spend too much as I'm sure a new Pro Bundle will be released in the near future and a few programs I have are going to have newer version released this year.
If DAZ does a catch up sale at the end of MM I might spend a bit more grabbing somethings that I didn't get at first.
I am usually quite picky. Some clothing products got the "mass production" feel to me and are lacking e.g. special morphs - just shape morphs won't cut it and quickly looking at the "What's included and features" already makes or breaks an item. In that regard I am buying from three/four vendors at most. I bought quite a few prop and prop sets - again from the usual suspects when it comes to quality.
In the end I am spending more in March Madness compared to e.g. chain sales before, but I am not really thrilled with March Madness.
...never purchased any of the 3Dream hairs as they tend to look "too shiny" in the promos. Not sure if they actually render that way.
Not at all. There's a dreamy, highly saturated, almost toon look to 3dream promos that is unique to them. They aren't that shiny in any lighting I've used.
For a very typical example, this product uses Gregoria and Isidor in its promos, and I used the hair shader and textures they came with. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/sy-the-blue-one-genesis/96751
I am just very spoiled on 3dream and SAV hairs for their versatility. It doesn't matter how cheap a hair is, if it looks stupid when a character leans back or turns their head, I'm not buying.
EDIT TO ADD: And here's the Orion hair, default shader, in my render in the MEN, MEN, MEN thread: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/277821/
I too am spoiled on 3Dream / Mairy hairs. I was so worried the 3Dream store would not be on sale this year.
I picked up three today from my wishlist, though at the last minute I decided against the new release. Nothing wrong with it, but I just didn't like the long curls. I could see me fighting with them every time I used the hair.
But ... three is a lot of hair to buy in one day (along with Predatron trees & bushes.)

I'm still waiting for anything in my wishlist to go on sale at all, and nothing has. I suspect I'll just have to keep waiting for the PA sale.
On the whole I'm much happier with what has been on offer during the event than in most years. But the discounts aren't as deep as they sometimes were before. Still, I'm a lot more likely to buy a set at 50% off than yet another minidress with a cutout in it for $4.99. Or even less.
you know what is bugging me? I actually used to like the skimpy wear - if they were fantasy or sci fi based, not contemporary stuff. But there has been such a huge influx of them lately for Genesis I am OVER it . I am so freakin tired of the spiked/stiletto heeled boots being included in fantasy or sci fi type outfits - they just don't suit. And all I'm seeing with MM every day are skimpy outfit with high heels (Genesis clothing). I am over it, I am tired of it, and I'm just not spending any money at all in MM.
Well, woo-hoo! Two of my wishlist items finally went on sale. One of the stores was on sale earlier in the month and it wasn't so I'm assuming that it just passed the 60-day limit. Good-oh.
Word.
I won't buy an otherwise great genre outfit if the footwear throws it off :)
And for fantasy barefoot is sexier don'cha know :-P
Or is that tmi? :red:
Well - and some did write they are cancelling and went the other direction and bought annual ...
As for buying things - this year I am buying more than last year.
As I hate chain sales, I am happy with this years ...
and being a PC member helps, because in some cases I simply added one of the PC items that are included each day in MM to bring the price down to 50%.

barefoot is good. :D
it'd be alright if I knew the pants would go past the knee, so I could use a different pair of flat boots iwth an outift. But the majority of them stop a the knee, and then it's a major hassle trying to find a pair of normal flat heeled boots to fit.
From the moment I started using Genesis for my renders, the figure is always barefoot. :) There's no other way – I can't fit any shoes from older generations and Genesis is yet to have anything comparable to what V4 or M4 has got. At first I was nervous about it, but then decided that I may adopt this as my style. :D
I have hopes that Genesis 2 that might come with DS 5 would be shoe-compatible. Imagine that! Or maybe the autofit will have a "non-cling" upgrade. I dream about this a lot. :)
In the meantime I bought something almost every day of MM. I'm watching PA part of the sale closely. My wishlist is so big that I can't truly complain about the same stores reappearing on the sale. Some things on my WL are so expensive I'll need many sales until I pick them all (esp. Jack Tomalin's) ;)
Generation3 shoes are converting quite well.
I've bought a few outfits for genesi in the sale.. But I have a problem with some of genesis clothing. It often doesn't look real in comparison to the character which looks much more realistic often creating an odd visual dissonance. . Particularly belts and straps around the waist and the neckline, lack of seams, pockets, and zippers and shiny plastic textures.
What I got that I otherwise wouldn't have? I've bought Maclean' Corridors and Streets, EArkham's ZWorld Corridors, AM African Village, and FM Fight Club. I like to check out what a featured PA has available that might work for me. I'm trying to hold out for certain wishlist items, though, and my budget is limited.
I bought some Maclean things, too. I was pleasantly surprised. I feel like the promos really don't do his bigger sets justice, and the lower price may mislead about their quality level - they really are absolutely worth it and they render up nicely.

I mostly agree; the classroom set, for instance, is actually very good. I haven't managed to get the Suburban House to render very well, but it's been a few months since I tried.
The problem IMO is very flat textures (and the promo lighting doesn't help); I think that most of those sets would do well to be retextured, with slightly more complex textures. Of course now I'm wondering if Pimp my Prop would help with making Maclean's sets more vibrant... I may have to try that tonight.

...so are there length and fullness morphs? Considering Bolina Hair as it looks so close the the wild style used for Merida in Pixar's Brave (and there is a "Carrot Red" map)
...oh and with 3DU on sale I can finally get the Sadie & Sam Ultra Outfit off my wishlist as it finally has been more than 60 days since it's release
Almost always. The other great thing about them is that they do style presets for all their hairs, which since they do tons of morphs really come in handy. If you look at promos and squint you can see the icons for the style presets.
... I see. Yes, I feel it would be very possible to come very very close to that wild mane of Merida's with it. It appears there's no distortion even with the extreme "windblown" morphs as I find with so many other hairs.
Still have not received any feedback to my question on the Garibaldi thread as to whether this sort of hair can be created.

I agree completely. I used MacLean's City Streets in this render (posted on another thread):

I've been having too much fun with M5 Dynamic Clothes these past few days to really look at some of my other purchases, but I did get around to looking at the FM Fight Club this morning. And I'm impressed. Very nice setup! I'm glad I bought it.
But, oh joy! Today is Stonemason Day! I've been on the lookout for this day because I've had several of his products on my wishlist lately. I'm going to have so much fun!! (Uh oh! Paypal balance now getting dangerously low!)
Greetings,
Yeah; I picked up a ton of Stonemason this morning. UF4: Street Level, the fourth City Ruins building, rounding out my set, the Village Courtyard (which I really want to contrast with the City Courtyard), the Dark Side of the City, and the The Treehouse. Frighteningly enough I still have several Stonemason sets on my wishlist...
The wishlist is willing, the pocketbook is weak. ;)
But this is not anything I 'otherwise wouldn't have bought'... That would have to be Fairytale Furniture - The Privy; it was my +1 in order to pick up Easy Environments: Greenlands. :)

...arrrrghh! why couldn't they have laid me off next week?
Stonemason
The Ant Farm
Luthbel
More nice "real" clothing (well as it is a DO had to pick up Breezy Wear - and agh, more G5 pics in the promo)
...and Thorne/Sarsa have yet to appear.
Need to buy a Quick Pick 4 -spot Keno ticket (450$ if all numbers show up & I can collect it at the pub).
Well, if you have some money left or second thoughts: Stonemason is on sale today again. ;)
...very tempting as I have the both City Ruin's Building #3 and Utopia Labs on my wish list. But Luthbel's Way of the Samurai won out (My Bushido Cowgirl finally has the appropriate attire) and there are a couple things that have been wanting even longer that hope will go on sale.
Plus, he's now working on US3 which I really want having seen the first teaser pic.
Have to really watch the bottom line for now as I am now unemployed.
Wish they still had the galleries, I'd have at least one Voucher in reserve.
...and it just got worse.
Sugatak's store is also on sale. The Old Japanese Town Edo id a perfect set for when my namesake was training outside of Kyoto.
waiting for faeries madness.
I've bought some unique things this sale.
Wardog for genesis, looks really good rendered. Nice detail, I can see this is an outfit I will use a lot.
also
Bought Raw's Brennan. I'm a sucker for male figures with ful. genesis morphs, and yeah, it is Yul Brynner, but he looks really good. The cigarette is a nice touch.
