Newly Made Models Not Showing Up as Subsets or Scenes After Saving

In 4.9 public build version, I made some new models and saved them  as "scenes" and "subsets" but they do not show up when I try to import them from the
unassigned" tab. I also found it strange that everytime I did a save, it would treat the scene as though it's being saved for the first time and I have to click on the existing saved name to finish saving. Is this a known issue and how do I get to see my new models in the list? I did confirm that the files do exist in the same folder as my older models that do show up. I made a bathroom scene exported from Blender and would like to just grab my models to bring into the scene.

  • On Save acting as Save as, have you entered anything for Author in Edit>Prefrences? DS will Save without a prompt only if the scene's author matches the curent applciation author (to avoid accidentally overwriting assets).

On the not showing up - do you mean you end up with an empty scene after loading?

Thanks Richard. I didn't put in my Author info yet. I will do that and see if it helps.

As for the not showing up, I mean when I go to load a subset or scene I made since installing 4.9 public build, none of them show up in the unassigned list with my older models and scenes when I want to add one of my new characters to the scene already opened. For some reason, the subsets are going to my local C Daz folder instead of the drive where I have DAZ pointed where my main runtime is located. The work around I found was to do a "merge an existing file" and navigate to where the file is saved but I would like to get things back to normal. My C drive is an SSD running out of space so I really want any added files writing away from it and to my runtime folder. I did check my directory in preferences and all seems to point to my main custom runtime directory.

  • You should be able to chnage the save location - if you are using the File menu commands it's just a standard dialogue. Saved files are now categorised as Saved Files, Unassigned is not used any more.

OK. So we no longer see our saved scenes or figures in the menus? How do I save my figures to show in the smart menu along with genesis3 etc.?

  • They should appear in the Saved Files category.

Thank You!! I see them now :) However, I do not see any of my saved material and shader presets. Where do I find those if I want to quickly transfer shasders, materials and shapes I saved?

serch them in content library, in daz studio directory. as relative path where you saved those preset. (you remember them?)

smart content view (each tab preset views)  not work untill you assgin comatpiblity with,  or you need to change option. fitler by contest. of each tab (bottom area check mark)

that means, ds simply try to show all files, with category only. (if you only need to find them, but as you know it is not quick and no smart filter)

I figured out my main problem....DAZ 4.8 was blocked by my ativirus program. All seems well now. I'll post back if I see anything I missed.

Looks like I spoke too soon in my last post. Unblocking 4.8 only allowed me to save without the message that I didn't have "permission to save in the folder"

I noticed that I can find my subsets and scenes I saved in 4.9 but I cannot find any shape presets I saved and none of my material presets either. I even went into 4.8 and saved shapes and material presets and they do not show up in any menus in 4.9. Not even in content library tab though they are saved in the same place as everything else that does show up. I think I need to just fully convert to 4.9 to simplify things? I'm thinking the 2 versions co-exist on the system for a reason and somehow I need all my files accessable in one application. I'm starting a new thread for that. Thanks for your help.

  • DS does track the save location for each type of preset separately, so make sure they really are going to the same place.
