Background Image Size?

I am very new to this, just trying to get some yoga and meditation videos done for my websites and You Tube. My current problem is:

The background pictures keep displaying as narrow strips, I have sized the background picture very large, like 3900X2550, but it's still looking skinny. What needs to be done to make the BG pic fill up the entire background? All I can find is "rotate image".

I attached a screen shot.

Thanks,
Jane

The background image shows up in the part of the screen defined as the render size/ratio.
This is defined in the render settings.

There is a tab for that..click on Menu: Windows/Tools/Render Settings. Dock it if you like.

Under Dimensions click on the 'Preset' bar. You will find a list of ratios you can select from. Then you can enter the exact pixels for size.

The top one in the list is 'Active Viewport' which will fill the entire area. Be aware, though, that you should try to match the ratio of your background image.

Thanks for the tip, Spit. I'll do that when I next get back to my project!
