renaming base mesh name.

I need to rename the base dsf. file of a custom character i created obj import and transfer utility to a create a non daz model..  The problem is all the auto generated morph names on FBX export are based on the orginal obj name I used to create the character (hi res no uv_87036) .  This name appends each morph and creates a ridiculous name for my morphs in external importing software in my case iclone.  I would like to rename the original  .dsf to a single letter name which would make the exported names a reasonable name for use in iclone.  How do I rename this file without messing up the many projects already created projects using this base files.  Probably confusing, but any help would be appreciated.

  • You can rename a figure using Edit>Figure>Scene identification

  • thanks for the reply

so the name of the base dsf will be changed to for example ( the letter "G") if i change the node name in the popup to "G" and not mess up the many scenes that access this base file see attched screen capture.  I'm paranoid that somehow this will screw up many hours of work.

  • That will affect only the sceen you are working in, and anything you export from the scene. It won'tr chnage the assets, as long as you don't resave them as assets.

  • thanks again for your reply.

I will try to show you my objective in case im not clear.  I changed the node name to the letter G pressed accept and the morphs still come through appended to the name "hi res no uv 893706.... as in the attached picture from screen grab.  So maybe you can check back on this post tommorow and ill try to clarify with another post.  I'm off to work for the evening   Really appreciate your help

  • Ok i get it.

The fbx exports with the G appended to morphs just as I want when I chabnge toe node name.  So I can do this manally with each export which is fine.  Is there any way to make the node indentifier permanent on the assett.  So your solution is great and thanks so much

Thanks for the tip, but the scene identification doesn't allow the change of the figure name.
How can we do that in order to avoid ridiculous long morph names at export?

    Thank you for helping.
