Rename function not available in Daz Studio 4.9

Has anyone had any luck in figuring out how to restore the "Rename" function in Catagories View in Daz Studio 4.9.3.166?  Tech Support is aware of the bug and submitted a report about it, but offers no solutions or work-arounds.  I have old User Data files I can replace the new files with, I can also uninstall and reinstall 4.9, and I might even have a 4.8 saved somewhere I might be able to use.  I'd prefer not to rebuild my Categories in Daz Studio for the 4th time.  Any suggestions, help of advice would be appreciated.

  • You should be able to take a screenshot within the computer - e.g. using the Snipping Tool in Windows - rather than taking a photograph.

Are these custom categories or are they vendor categories under the Default master heading?

Thanks for your reply. These are custom categories blended in with the default categories, and the popup menu that contained the grayed out "rename" item would not be visible if I'd used the snipping tool.  I've attached a second pic using screen capture, hopefully this helps.  Any ideas on how to correct this?

  • They are vendor categories to DS - if they were user caegories they'd hae a U at bottom-left, and be a slightly different colour.

I use DAZ Studio Database Tamer v2.5 to rename categories and create new "vendor" categories.  I've found that if you create your own categories then they are 'U'ser categories and are sorted separately from vendor categories (at the end) which I always found frustrating.  Using this tool allows all my categores to be "vendor" categories.  It works fine for these tasks on the 4.9 database.  However that's all I use it for.  I don't recommend using it for deleting categories.

Database Tamer looks like a great product, and I plan to give it a try, but it still doesn't get me closer to restoring the rename function within DS 4.9 without losing my custom catagories.  If I do a clean reinstall of DS 4.9, and load up the previous version of my user data, I would assume I'd get rename function back, and MOST of my custom categorizations back, with only a few months of categories to replace instead of 5 years worth of work.  I'd just like to know if anyone else has had success with this approach, or can suggest a less drastic solution.  Thanks!

  • not certain...  I may have missed something above..
I just right clicked in my content library and created a file named george and then renamed it to frank...
it's in a directory that starts with 00 bard which is a folder of my creations and in a subset folder ... so they're not ventor folders...
and I tried a couple of those and I can also...

could it be your computer is having permission issues and you can read data but can't modify it?

I think he wants to mix custom and DAZ provided catagories and be able to edit them, which doesn't seem to be possible.

  • all most all my catagories are custom.. but I do them during installation...
    started it back before DIM...

I have a about a 100 folders on my data drive ...  numbered and named...
and I install each product to the approriate folder...

as long as I keep a backup of my files .. I have also backed my data structure and it's impervious to any changes daz might make...

but Daz is to commended because you can certainly move data around and the content library will still handle it.

I shoved folders around in my cars folder *for instance) and renamed them by year first and just stuck the materials in with the item... and it works...

I have a peculiar problem, maybe or not related to this. I reset my db because importing my old one with custom categories (from another machine) just didn't work, though I tried several times. Now I am rebuilding the whole thing from scratch. However, after a few items are categorized, the whole process grinds to a frustrating halt.

I use the same process (right click on folder in library, select create category from, etc), but even though it seems to work, the new category in "Categories" even appears, it is unpopulated. There are no items inside. Trying to categorize items individually yields the same results. Any ideas?
