Which graphic card would be the best for DAZ Studio 4.9 IRay

Hi together,

I want to buy an used PC with 2 graphic cards NVidia GTX Titan à 6 GB. Could perhaps somebody tell me, if this works very good with DAZ Studio 4.9 IRay Rendering? The last days I found here in the forum a thread with many different cards for using IRAY Rendering, but - sorry - I don't found this thread again.

The Iray performance on that old card will be around the same as a current GTX 1060 6GB.

The issue with that is that the GTX Titan uses almost double the power of a GTX 1060.

That would all depend on your budget.
Here is a list of cards in order of performance

    1. $5000 - Quadro P6000 - 24GB VRAM
    2. $6000 - Quadro GP100 - 16GB HBM2 VRAM
    3. $2000 - Quadro P5000 - 16GB VRAM (GPU is the same as the GTX 1080 but is ranked higher because of VRAM is important in Iray)
    4. $1500 - Nvidia Titan Xp - 12GB VRAM
    5. $1500 - Nvidia Titan X - 12GB VRAM (Do not buy this card it was replaced i nthe market by the Titan Xp and performs similar to the 1080ti)
    6. $700-$800 - Geforce GTX 1080 ti - 11GB VRAM ***This card is the price vs. performance sweet spot if you can afford it***
    7. $500-$600 - Geforce GTX 1080 - 8GB VRAM
    8. $1500 - Nvidia GTX Titan X - 12GB VRAM (Previous generation GPU)
    9. $xxx - Geforce GTX 1070 - 8GB VRAM (Do not purchase for over $400 price gougers have inflated the price)
    10. $440 and up - GTX 980 ti  - 6GB VRAM (Previous generation GPU
    11. $260 - Geforce GTX 1060 - 6GB VRAM (Do not purchase for over $270 price gougers have inflated the price) (newegg has it in stock as of this post for under $270)
    12. $??? - Nvidia GTX Titan Black - 6GB VRAM (2 GPU generations back)
    13. $??? - Nvidia GTX Titan - 6GB VRAM (2 GPU generations back)

Yes those will work very nice with Iray.

Keep in mind with Iray, you may still drop to a CPU only render when working with large complex scenes that have multiple characters in them.
The trick with Iray is thet the entire scene needs to fit into the VRAM for each GPU that participates in the render job. (Your GPUs do NOT combine VRAM)

  • Do you know, if there is an updated list somewhere with newer graphic cards?

  • Add:

a bunch of RTX Quadros almost no one has seen at prices that are truly scary.

    RTX Titan 24Gb $2500

RTX 2080ti  11Gb around $1200 depending on model

    RTX 2080 8Gb around $800

    RTX 2070 8Gb around $500

    RTX 2060 6Gb around $350

    GTX 1660ti 6Gb around $280

GTX 1070ti 8Gb around $450 (this card is not in production and stocks are low)
