is there much of a demand for 3d products like clothing for characters and props ect?
i am wondering if it is worth investing the time in training and if there is any decent self employment to be had in such things?
thanks.

Having hobbied around in 3D for 10 years, seeing it grow, I say yes and yes. I am considering the same question, having recently closed my real life shop largely due to the manufacturers in my field selling direct on the web. Which is a great idea for them. Anyway, your question is really "Do you want to constantly update your knowledge, skills, and possibly the items you have already made for sale?" Due to the ever changing programs, and the growing skills of your selling peers. The world of 3D moves and changes fast. You need to be really dedicated to be a success. Like any other new venture. If you hate studying, learning, and finding or inventing geek type solutions (note the sheer size of these forums looking for solutions), then 3D is a no go. Best wishes for you! - Rebecca
Greetings,
Bluebird3D has a series of videos more or less on that exact topic, and aims to help a little bit.
They're fun watching, and bite-sized. I haven't caught up since she started posting them again recently, but I liked them enough to follow.

All these app's are free
For 3D there's Blender. ,There's a lot of tutorials at youtube and blenderartists.org is very helpful.
