Is there a way to switch between local and world coordinates?

Once you start rotating a character in posing, the manipulator gizmo is off-kilter: its axes point according to the character's local rotation, rather than remaining lined up with the world's axes. This makes it hard to position a character in relation to another object or person in the scene.

In other 3D apps, you can choose at any time whether the manipulator aligns with local or world coordinates. Is this also possible in DAZ Studio? If so, how do you make the choice?

Yes, select one of the manipulator tools, like Universal, Rotate, or Translate, and open the Tool Settings pane. At the very top of that pane is the selector for coordinate system.

I really need to explore the Tool Settings pane for all the tools. Because of limited screen space, I don't tend to keep it open, but I bet there are loads of hidden gems there to find.

  • I really wish this was hot-keyable. unfortunately, I'm also too lazy to make a feature request so I'll go back to suffering in silence.

  • Thank you so, so much. How didn't I know that earlier. Makes live so much easier!
