Adding Bones to One Piece Mesh Dress OBJ File?

I am trying to rig the dress which is a one piece obj file. But I am wonderng why the bones do not show in the area within the red circle and instead says "default"?
How do I add bones to the OBJ file in the Geometry list?

You could group the mesh in your modeller or in DS (import OBJ, use the Geometry Editor to add groups, export with Use existing as the option for groups).
So, I got Geometry Editor activated, so when I go into Windows => Panes (Tabs), where should I go in order to add groups? It seems as if I cannot add groups in Figure Setup when in Geometry Editor.
No, you have to import the OBJ into a DS scene, edit to add groups, and export as OBJ, then load that into the Figure Setup pane. Is this a model you made yourself?
When you said "edit to add groups", I got the dress OBJ selected, and I clicked Edit Menu on the top of the screen. How do I access the Add Groups?
As for the model, I downloaded the QuickDress on some site. It was a freebie. That probably explains why there is default in the geometry list.
But I did create a texture for the QuickDress in Blender. So my question is, is there any way for me to add the texture to the QuickDress?
Does anybody know if there is a way for me to create a Dynamic Dress with the QuickDress object from Morphography in DAZ Studio?
The official dynamic cloth engine used in Daz Studio is a closed ecosystem. It is only designed to use clotting items built with the official tool (this tool is not available for general users)
There are however 2 ways around that... To an extent.
There's a tool out In the wild that will convert any object file to Daz dynamic (I am not impressed with the results)
Then there is a plug-in called VWD (virtual world dynamics) that you can grab the demo version of at some other content store...
Does anybody know how to rig the QuickDress to a DAZ Studio figure? I right-clicked and there is no "Fit to" option. Plus it appears it is not rigged. How do I rig?
Does anybody know if there is a free or cheap add-on designed for quick rigging of clothing on a DS figure?
You mean like the built-in transfer tool function?
Stupid question perhaps, but, what is this "QuickDress"? I haven't found it in the shop.
Edit>Figure>Transfer Utility, set the Source figure as the oen you want to wear the clothes, set the target as your imported OBJ (which must, as imported, line up with the zeroed figure)
Merged threads.
I've never heard of QuickDress but VWD will drape just about anything on a figure. It does crash sometimes and there's a learning curve, but it's a very powerful program.
I think at this stage it would help if you explained exactly what you are trying to do.
I think the Transfer Utility is a nice idea. But I do have one problem: the scene item is supposed to be Daphne Dress_OBJ3, but the target item is supposed to have Victoria 4.2 as an option. Instead it has the same dress or none as options. Also, the Weight Maps check box is disabled.
What would I have to do in order to choose the target item as Victoria 4.2? What items should I select as displayed in this image?
So I am still having trouble with rigging dresses on my figure using Transfer Utility. I have to admit, I used outfits I downloaded (and for whomever asked, QuickDress is downloadable on Morphography), exported them as OBJ in DAZ Studio for the purpose of creating new materials and shortening or lengthening. I wonder if exporting objects I downloaded from other sites cannot be rigged for some reason?
If so, I may have some work to do this coming weekend - possibly working on a new dress from scratch in Blender.
Hi @ jonsea31gsn_008b1b42a1
I see you getting closer now with the Trasfer Utility but the Source should be "Victoria 4.2" and the Target should be "Daphne Dress_OBJ3".
Try it the other way around and you should see that the Weight Maps option is no longer been greyed out.
With Trasfer Utility you don't transfer the dress to the figure but the morphs (all shaping options of the figure) and weightmaps (how the figure bends) to the dress.
For more details see Basic Rigging with the Transfer Utility.
Under General Options I would only select "Weight Maps", "Face Groups" (only if you didn't found a way to create them by your own by now) and "Morph Targets" (there are extended options that are self-explanatory I hope).
Keep in mind the dress should allready fit the shape of the figure the ideal would be skintight so you get better results with Trasfer Utility.
Transfer Utility is for weight-mapped figures, not parametric figures like Victoria 4 - that's the problem with starting a new thread, when replying we didn't have the context from your previous threads. For a parametric figure, in DS or Poser, you do need the OBJ grouped.
