Can one parent a simple prop to another simple prop and save it so it stays that way?

Well, just like the title says...
Most of the time I convert my models into props in Poser first, then bring them into DS and tweak the materials, but since Superfly seems to messing up the materials more then Firefly, I decided to just import the OBJs into DS and skip Poser...
But I can't seem to save the props as parented... The item is a simple statue and base... I parented the base to the statue (by dropping the base onto the statue)... It's parented fine... But if I go to save it as a prop asset, it either saves the statue or the base... Not both...
When I'm trying to save as a prop asset, I see that there is a check box for "Smart Prop", but it won't check...
I've tried with just the main prop selected and with both the prop and sub prop (parent/child) selected and neither will unlock that check box or save parented.
I looked up a bunch of threads here and it seems like they all are trying to smart prop rigged props to figures... All I'm trying to do parent a really simple prop to an even simpler one, but DS keeps serving up a big steaming plate of NOPE...
The weird thing is, if I bring in the model as a PP2 (that I parented in Poser), I can save it as a DS Prop Asset and it will stay parented after its saved.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Try Scene Asset(s). Or save both as single assets and then use a Sceen Subset to save the parenting. If the parent item was a figure you could use a Wearables preset for the "Smart prop", but that doesn't work with a prop as the parent.
I changed the title of the question because I used the word "smart prop" and that was wrong, I don't need a smart prop, I think I got confused by the other threads I was reading and misused the word...
but I kinda feel the answer is gonna be the same.
So then there is no way to save a parented prop as such without it being saved as a a scene asset?
what about saving it as a Scene Subset ,that's what I do when moving Poser formatted props to my DS prop folder .
By coincidence, I've been on the same trail since yesterday and have been coming up against the same answers. Saving it as a scene subset wouldn't bother me so much if it weren't for the green label on the icon that says 'Set' - it's not, it's a prop (in my case it's a bottle with a cap parented to it because I want it to be removable). 'Scene asset' gets you 'Scene' written on the icon instead. It also bothers me because I've got plenty of bottles with removable tops parented to them that are labelled 'prop' on the icon, so I know that it's possible. I have taken a step back from it for a day or so in favour of other bits of the project, in the hope that I will have unfried my brain by the time I get back to it. In the unlikely event of me discovering anything useful before you do, I will let you know :)
I have to do this all the time for animation props I've been working with . Just them together save as a scene subset, to your asset folder you choose. they will load just as you save them
umm the label disappears when you create a new icon and replace the original
Put them in a parent group, save it as a scene then you can merge it into other scenes.
This is why I'm dangerous with a fried brain :)
Have you tried to create a Null and parrent the props to this?
it shouldn't - the label isn't part of the image, it's an overlay added by the Content Management System. If you move or rename the files in an OS window as well as giving them a new thumbnail then yes, that will break the link with the database.
No, but if that is a viable alternative I'll give it a try... I'm gonna go look that process up now.
technically 2 props would be a group?
Ok sorry this is now five year old thread, but for many trouble free years i was using Daz 3 Advanced, till one day something happen and i lost the camera, ended up with a line across the screen, even a new hard drive hasn't solved it, so as i already had DS 4.9 i started using that, sort of getting use to it before moving on to the latest version.
So back to the problem, in DS 3, if i wanted to parent one prop one to another i could and it became one object, example a candle on a candlestick, i don't want to move each candle in turn i want to move one objedt. I was doing this in DS 4 last week but for some strange reason when i do it now, the candle centres on the middle candlestick, if i change parent to candlestick it does the same, if i make a Null and parent the candlestick to this the candle stick turns upside down.
I don't want to save it as a prop, subscene, subprop or whatever as it is already a prop bought from a vender i just want it to stick to the candle stick so i can move it around a scene i have.
I can see me going into Hexagon to weld them together which sort of defeats the object of having bought props.
If i could only get DS 3 running i would be one happy bunny!
It sounds like you have Parent In place off. It's a check box at the bottom of the Change Parent dialogue if you are using that, or an entry in the Scene pane option menu (the lined button in the top corner, or right-click the tab) if you are using drag-and-drop. The option was presumably on in DS3.
