Hi MS, LTNS :) I believe you and I think along the same lines. what I like about g1 the best is the easy transformations in going from child to a woman to wolf to man to bear all in one scene. to me is a really great feature.
Indeed it is frankly a cynical insult to our collective intellects, to
describe G8 as "The most backwards compatible Genesis ever"
Does it really.. " scream of animation"??
Of course it is a great addition to DS but Seriously it looks to have been design
so the still render gallery uploaders can do simple one frame drapes with the
"DformCompliant" clothing and not have the pockets& buttons fall off.
If you want to use your own meshes you must model them to be conformers
and paint the weightmaps yourself to keep the fiddly bits from separating during the sim
or Buy "DformCompliant" store content.
Not a problem for content developers like myself
But lets face it most DS users
will wait for the "DformCompliant" store content"
and this new feature does NOTHING to Address the real issue with DS animation
such as a lack of a true IK /FK solver or aniMate / BVH import support for their beloved G8.
I think my somewhat flippant "dance with the one who brung you" in my last post may have been misconstrued, and I apologize if that was the case. It was meant to support the idea that if you have something that works for animation (i.e. Genesis 1) then, absolutely, use it if the latest and greatest character does not work for you. I agree, it makes no sense to work with a character that is unusable for you, or one that your existing assets don't work with.
I do think that Daz is a viable animation tool. I wouldn't be here if I thought otherwise. Setting up scenes for animations in Daz has been one of the joys of working with it thus far. And I agree with wolf359, a good FK/IK system and at least a BVH importer/converter for G3/8 would be great upgrades.
No offense taken by me, your one of my favorite Pa's :)
On aside note, some positive news Richard & Kevin Sandards told us today one of the improvements that daz 4.10 beta has now is new modifications to the BVH importer that is suppose to address the problems with the newer Daz g3 & g8 figures. posted in another thread which if works as intended, it mighthopefully fix one of hurdles of compatibility issues with older generation characters BHV files. I agree too, a IK system has been needed a long time so I to hope that is next
PS: I really like the new aniblock set you released, but sadly i kind of held off buying it for now because it was just for g3, maybe later down the road I'll pick it up
I really love when you make your aniblocks for more than one character set. usually the reason I buy them
I bought the latest one simply so I at least had something to use with G8 if I chose to use them.
You and (SKAmotion for sexy walks) are the only source of any animations for them.
G1 - High Res, High Diversity, Lots of clothing options.
G2 - Higher Res, Not as flexable artistically as G1. But lots of clothing options and other add-ons
G3 - Low Res, Low divserity artisticly, Very good with bending. With "Wear them All" Autofit Clones nearly limitless clothing options. Tons of add-ons.
G8 - Tries to be Mid Grade in everything.
With Animations G2 is the way to go. IMHO. G2 can play with G1 and G2 Aniblocks and some of the G3 Aniblocks too without too much adjusting.
They all have their uses. It really depends on your goal. I still use G1 and G2 and G3 every day.
@Ivy I'm glad to hear that you like what I've done with High Fantasy 1, and I do understand why'd you'd hold off on buying it. I do include generic BVH files that, even without any sort of BVH importer updates, can still get you the animations on offer, for characters that aren't in the pack. They still require some tweaking but they are an option that is available to you for whenever you decide to pickup the pack.
I really wonder how many people realize those BVH files are available in the motion packs. Certainly using pose files and aniBlocks are easier to use, but I include those files to give others something to work with for the unsupported characters. I may have to make a bigger point about them for the next new pack release.
@th3Digit Thanks for the purchase and support! If you ever do use them with G8, please feel free to let me know.
The main female character in the High Fantasy 1 promo video/art is G8F (nicknamed "Claire" during the pack creation), so you at least have an idea from that as to how well she can animate. As for the poor zombies taking the hits, they were Genesis 1 using motions from the Zombie Moves pack.
