Changing the location of DAZ content

My DAZ content has been installing to  Users / Public.  I recently found that this is on my C drive, which is a smal SSD.
Moving Users / Public did not work (I dont know, my husband and son who both work on computers daily tried it)
I read in the forums that content can be put anywhere, so Great!
To be sure that I understand correctly - I change the pointer in DAZ and also the pointer in the DAZ Install Manager.

Then, do I copy and paste my content to the new location (maintaining the file structure), or doi I have the installer download and install all of my content to the new location?
Thanks!

  • Copy and paste will work for DS. DIM keeps absolute paths (including the drive) in its manifests files - you can tell DIM to isntall to the current isntall location, instead of the original, which should make most updates work but on the odd occasion that an update actually removes a file DIM won't find it and so you may have issues. Some people use a text editor with batch-capabilities to update all the manifest files (there are the ones in the manifests folder, not the oesn with the zips in the Downloads folder).

Personally I always use manual install instead of DIM or Connect. This way to move the content library I just have to cut and paste and update the content manager in the preferences. Didn't get any issue ever so far. Also third party assets are manual install anyway so this keeps things consistent.

  • As I said, the only issue with DIM Installed content is the list of locations in DIM - and that will be a problem only in rare situations. Not using DIM doesn't really gain anything in this respect.

  • Everything is working great in its new location.
Thank you so much for the help!
