Smart Content vanished & Search not working.
I'm using DS 4.0.
Opened DS today to find all the stuff in my Smart Content had vanished! It's still there in the content library (Daz Studio Format/My Library and so on) but it's a pain to find when it should be in Smart Content where it used to be (for example: Genesis, Mil Dragon and so on). What;s happened and how do i get things back to how they were?
Also the search function in the content library isn't working. No matter what I search for I get a "none" result. Even if the item is there as a thumbnail so I know i have it!
Hope someone can help!

Windows or Mac?
Windows > Start Menu button > All Programs > Daz3D > Content Management System > Turn ON CMS.
Mac ???
Yes, both these functions depend on the Content Management System, so if they both abruptly stop working, it usually means your CMS has stopped. Some people have found it to be a bit flaky and unreliable, it does this sometimes.
I'm using windows.
Did as Szark sugested. A little black box flashed up, it may have contained some code or something, I'm not sure because it vanished so quickly. Opened DS but still nothing in Smart Content.. Tried several times, both with DS running and without. Still no Smart Content. The stuff that was there is stuffed away in the Content Library, several layers deep. Search function still not working, which is goint to cost me a lot of time as I use it quite a lot.
Any ideas guys?
Have you had a Windows Update or a Anti Virus update? Some AV software can Block the CMS from talking to DS if not allowed.
Despite what SpottedKitty I never have or had an issues like many get here with CMS...ever. Why I have no idea, maybe I am a little more anal about what I install on my machine, what Anti Virus/Malware and Firewall I use. MS Security Essntials all the way. Also it depends on what windows updates there have been. I never let Windows Update install anytthing barring Antivirus updated definitions ever. Mostly these problems arise from something other than Daz Studio playing up.
Ok lets make sure CMS is either running or not. Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up Task Manager and look under Processes or Services and find CMS. If it is nowehere to be seen then try turning it on agan with Daz Studio closed.
Apart form that I have nothing more to offer. I am generally better with probems I come across on my own system and since CMS plays nice well you get the idea. :)
Thanks for the quick replies. My computer updates stuff quite regularly, so that could be an issue. But not only that...
I get the feeling that today is not going to be my day. Opened Task manager and even that's not working like it should! The Process and Service tabs aren't there anymore and there's no button to minimise or get rid of task manager! See pic below.
What the hell?
EDIT: No, wait I solved the task manager thing. Now to try again...
Wow never seen that happen before.
HELP we need some computer savvy help over here....I can use Windows and all the software I have pretty well but when things go wrong I go on holiday. This is why I have complete control on what and when things get installed or updated, I can't fix things like this and wouldn't know where start sorry.
But we are heading toward your computer saying NO and nothing to do with Daz Studio malfunctioning...
Got task manager running as it should (must have clicked something I shouldn't - Doh!).
Checked tabs.
No CMS under services or processes.
Tried Start CMS with DS closed.
Still doesn't show up in services or proceses.
Swore at computer.
Well, I'm with Szark, but I know whoever comes to help will want to know what anti-virus you are using (I use Kapersky, HATE Norton with a passion, McAfee is so-so but let a virus in on my other computer before this one.) Is it JUST MS Essentials?
Check your firewall settings and see if it lists what it blocks? That's just a guess as to a good starting point. What program are you using?
When was your last full Re Boot?

Maybe Proxima Shining can help, they has the same AV that you have. Doing a web search to see what comes up, but this is about all I can find.
Cathie
i use AVG antivirus (have done for years), and it's always done quite a good job for me.
I'm not sure what a Full Reboot is (sounds ominous), yes that's how good my computer skills are!
I've noticed that over the last few wekks DS has been running more and more sluggishly, and I've been getting a lot of "not responding" white screen while it catches up that hardly ever used to happen before. But that's probably a different problem.
Computers...best AND most frustrating things ever.
Yeah I have a love hate relationship with computers..I love to hate them. :)
A full Reboot is a total shut down. Not a Restart, a fully off, rest at least 1 minute and then a restart. Sometimes that fixes things as the OS has time to do a Total Clean up of temp files.
Agreed. They can do all this amazing stuff, but man do they make you suffer for it sometimes!
@Jaderail: for some reason I thought you meant some kind of "restore to factory settings" sort of thing. Just me getting mixed up as usual. I have tried a reboot; this problem started yesterday afternoon and the computer's been rebooted at least twice if not three times since then.
One last thing from me- if your computer is getting more and more sluggish, are your drives getting full? If you go to the bottom left corner to the Start>Computer>(click) you'll see bar graphs showing how much free disk space you have. Your computer may also need de-fragmentation (and Jaderail, you'd have to take it from here on that. My hubby has to talk me through it.) Those two things can create sluggishness.
EDIT: and DS (DAZ Studio) is normally on C drive.
Got a decent amount of space left on C drive, but I'm going to move some stuff about to make a bit more space I think.
And a defrag is probably way overdue! So i'll try that too.
Thanks again for the advice people!
Hmm.. sort of out of Ideas at this point. If the CMS port is not blocked I have no other clues to work from.
