Iridescent Shaders for Iray [Commercial]

And my first product is unleashed upon the store!

https://www.daz3d.com/iridescent-shaders-for-iray

There are two different shaders that add color based on angle of the surface to the camera. The first shader is fairly simple, useful for velvet and satin. It can take two different image maps to create intricate effects. The second has 5 different arcs of color, allowing a more precise and varied range of tints.

Note that these shaders add to the base color; if the result is too dark, you may need to lighten either the iridescent or base color.

Experiment with metallicity and refraction. Iridescent creates intense effects with both.

There are bump patterns in many of the presets. Control how fine or coarse the pattern is by right clicking on the bump map and selecting Image Editor, adjusting the tiling pattern.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Hurray! Congratulations! I was curious about the hair use but I couldn't quite figure it out from the promos on the product page... also, were the dragon scales applied by your bump maps?

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,011

The dragon scale bump maps were from the Royal Eastern Dragon, and then the color comes from the iridescent effect. Applying the hair will keep bump, Normal, Cutout Opacity, and Displacement maps, but it will, by default, eliminate the base color. You can, of course, right-click when applying to keep that map, but may then have to adjust the colors a bit.

With iridescence on hair, bump, Normals, and Displacement will create natural variations in color that you don't have to explicitly map out. This is, of course, going to really depend on how good the hair is.

Congratulations, Will. I know you've been working at shaders for a long time, and I'm delighted to see Daz pick up this set.

Into the cart it goes. smiley

Note on the dragonfly wings: Just plop it on a plane, and there you go, wings.

  • Hey! Congrats!  I saw those in the store just now and saw Wilbear for the vendor and I was totally blown away.  I was thinking that has to be our Will, that's his DA username.  I'm thrilled for you and those shaders look awesome!

Can you get an effect like this

  • MelanieLMelanieL Posts: 7,384

Congratulations on getting your first product out, Will! Looks good. I'm a big shader junkie so this will doubtless join my collection very very soon.

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,011

    Chohole:

The first image is the Iridescent Purple fabric preset. Not really close.

Second took a lot of fiddling, but uses the five color iridescent shader. I THINK it's pretty close, but to compare it properly I'd need to get a more rumbled fabric like the example. Also had a little trouble figuring out what the cyan highlights are from.

Metallicity helps make the tint pop, because metallicity drives a lot of effects from base color. So getting fabric like this generally requires some fineagling to get enough without overpowering.

Wow, Will! These shaders are fantastic! I'm just playing with the presets now, but looking at the what it does it the surfaces tab, the possibilities look pretty endless. They render pretty fast too. I stopped this early because I was too excited to share, so it's a little grainy.

Here's the Aqua Lame preset on Jepe's Wondersheetz II and the Iridescent Hair Preset on Free Spirit Hair. No postwork. I used Fabiana's Theory of Zen Moods HDR and Lights. The soft light really compliments your shiny shaders well. (Click for much bigger pic.)

    That's really gorgeous.

And the hair thing ended up working far better than I would have predicted.

I think I'm really lucky that the dforce beta came out just as my shader was released, encouraging a lot of fabric experiments.

Thanks- I am just floored at how beautiful these are. Great job! I could see them being used a lot in fantasy renders, as well as romance, sci-fi and surreal. Mermaids, unicorns, superheroes, dancers...I think they're all going to look fabulous in them!

ETA: I don't have the Orange Peel skin product that The Philosopher came out yet with but I bet they would look cool on that too.

    Oh, that's an idea.

I've also tried it on LAMH fiberhair, and gotten some weird (but cool) results...

One more before bedtime. I used the Aqua Lame Preset, just changed the colors in the surfaces tab to an array of pinks. The glass floor has the whiskey preset on it. The feathers in V4's hair have salmon roe preset. I added a metal preset to her nails and changed the color to match the dress (click and zoom in for more detail.) No postwork. Lots of possibilities!

Oh wow! Those are some neat directions to go with it, and I like the refractive stuff being used for such soft effects.

The presets are really intended as a jumping off point to show how things go together, or ideas on directions to go.

    @timmins.william.

You need to use some of these pix as promos! Awesome! Grabbing this set.

Would you consider starting your product names with WB or somesuch? Feel free to ignore, but I like it when I can know a product is from a particular artist just by glancing at the name. Helps me not miss things. Glad @Llynara posted pix on @Novica's thread as I had overlooked these due to rushing.

Pardon. Didn't mean to sound bossy.

I cannot see a difference between 'Velvet Blue' and 'Velvet Burgundy'.  Am I overlooking something?

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,011

Firewarden: Duly noted! Maybe WB, maybe Willbear, not sure. I'll think about it.

Ostadan: ... Well poo. You get the prize for first spotting an error! I must have copied something over wrong.

Until I get it fixed, you can get a burgundy effect by switching Iridescent Center Color to Red (same Value), possibly a Reddish-blue.

I couldn't resist doing some more lamé! This is a V4 body suit and fits a little strangely (smoothing was a nightmare!) but the character is odd too. Fun though! The lamé definitely shows any issues in the modeling of the cloth. Fabiana's dress above came out great because it's modeled so smoothly. This bodysuit is Dark Raven Reloaded on Gluttony from the 7 Deadly Sins with Famke for Lilith 7's morphs.

    Sweet Assassin

Move over, Joker and Harley Quinn! There's a new girl in town! And she's sad. She has to kill you now because you made fun of her thighs!

    Wow!

Keep in mind that it may be useful to change bump tiling with Image Editor, particularly if you are applying a fabric preset on something not clothing related.

It's also fun to combine with other bump pattern products, like Parrotdolphin or Fisty's fabrics, or Mec4d's pbr shaders.

  • LlynaraLlynara Posts: 4,770

Oh yeah! That's next! Time to play mixy matchy! laugh

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,011

Oh, someone pointed out something I stupidly forgot to make clear: the two base shaders are custom mixed, not just presets of existing shaders.

    In case anyone didn't realize.

  • Bought, looking forward to trying this out tomorrow.

Also? Bonus points for having the figure reflected in one of the shader preview globes on the ad teaser. It caught my eye on launch and got me to really look at the product.

Here's the red satin shader with a few tweaks on LilFlame's Dynamic Purity Dress, draped with dForce. I changed the color slightly, upped metallicity to .50 and put the original textures back in the bump, normal and cutout opacity channels. I also turned SubD up.I think it came out pretty good!
